1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSony has not announced when the PS6 will arrive or what it will cost. If you want to play PS5 games soon, buying a PS5 now is a reasonable choice; if your current console or PC still suits you, waiting is also reasonable—but there is no confirmed PS6 date to plan around.
How to make the decision
Start with the games and setup you have, not an assumed console-release cycle. Buy now if there are PS5 games you want to play soon or you want access to the existing PlayStation library. Wait if you are content with your current setup and are comfortable with an unknown wait for the next generation.

Sony’s FY2025 Q4 investor Q&A says: “As for next-generation platforms, no decisions have been made regarding timing or pricing, and we plan to consider these matters while monitoring future conditions.” That means a specific PS6 launch window or price is not confirmed. Rumors and guesses based on past console generations are not Sony announcements. Sony investor Q&A

Use the price you can actually get in your region to make the comparison. The table does not predict what a PS6 might cost: Sony has not announced next-generation pricing.
Choose disc or digital based on the games you own
Sony says the overwhelming majority of more than 4,000 PS4 games can be played on PS5, although some exceptions and functionality differences apply. If you own PS4 game discs, choose a PS5 model with a disc drive: those discs cannot be used on the PS5 Digital Edition. Check Sony’s compatibility guidance for individual titles and details. If you buy games digitally and do not need a disc drive, the Digital Edition may suit your habits. Compare its local price with the disc-drive model, and consider whether you want the option to use physical games before choosing.
Decide whether PS5 Pro’s premium matters to you
At its September 2024 announcement, Sony described PS5 Pro as having a GPU with 67% more compute units than the then-current PS5, memory 28% faster, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. These are Sony’s launch-era specifications, not independent tests showing a fixed improvement in every game. Sony’s PS5 Pro announcement

- 🚀 CPU: 3.5GHz, 8-core AMD Zen 2
- 🚀 Storage: Custom 825GB SSD
- 🚀 RAM: 16GB GDDR6
- 🚀 GPU: 10.3 teraflop RDNA 2 GPU
Consider Pro if its higher-end graphics features are important enough to you to justify the higher local price. If they are not, compare the standard PS5 models instead; Sony’s published specifications do not establish that every game will look or run better by the same amount.
Use games you want to play as a reason to buy—or wait
A specific release can make the choice more concrete than speculation about a future console. In its June 2026 announcement, Sony scheduled Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5 on November 19, 2026. That is the schedule Sony published at the time, and release dates can change; check the latest official announcement if this game affects your decision. The scheduled PS5 release is a reason some players may want a PS5, not evidence of a PS6 launch date. Sony’s announcement of the scheduled release

More broadly, consider whether you have a specific PS5 game you want to play soon, or whether you are satisfied with your current library. Sony reported more than 93 million cumulative PS5 units sold by the end of March 2026 and 125 million PlayStation monthly active user accounts in March 2026. Those figures provide context about the platform’s scale, but they do not predict PS6 timing or determine whether a PS5 is worthwhile for you. Sony’s platform figures
Include storage in your ownership calculation
A compatible M.2 SSD can expand PS5 storage and play PS5 games. Sony advises checking its detailed compatibility requirements and notes that compatible drives may not deliver identical performance. PS5 games stored on an external USB drive must be moved back to console or M.2 storage before they can be played. If storage is a concern, account for the drive you may need and verify its compatibility before buying. Sony’s M.2 SSD and USB storage guidance
