ShortMatic is designed to turn an existing long video into candidate vertical clips—not to create a video from a text prompt. It proposes moments, prepares captions and reframing, and leaves the creator to review, correct, and choose what to publish. That distinction matters: the AI supplies candidates, not a guarantee of a compelling Short or viral performance.
What ShortMatic does—and what it doesn’t
ShortMatic Ai describes a workflow for repurposing recordings such as podcasts, tutorials, interviews, webinars, and YouTube videos. You provide a video by uploading it or supplying a YouTube link; the tool proposes shorter moments, supports captions and vertical reframing, and lets you export clips for YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels. This is different from a text-to-video workflow. A separate site, Shortmatic.com, describes generating a script and voiceover from text or audio, then adding gameplay or stock visuals and effects. The similar names do not establish that the two sites are the same product. Check the domain before relying on feature or pricing details.
How the review queue fits into a creator’s workflow
- Bring in a recording. Upload an existing long video or provide a YouTube link, as described in ShortMatic Ai’s materials and the founder’s DEV Community post.
- Review proposed moments. Treat the AI’s selections as a queue of candidates. A moment that sounds interesting in the full recording may still need context to work on its own.
- Refine the edit. Check captions for transcription mistakes and inspect the vertical crop. A speaker, demonstration, or other important visual can be cut off or poorly positioned by an automated frame.
- Export the clips you approve. The product page names YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels as destinations. The creator—not the queue—decides which clip is ready to publish.
What to check before approving a candidate
A useful candidate should make sense to someone who has not watched the full recording. Listen and watch for three editorial qualities:

Then check the captions against the audio and make sure the vertical framing keeps the relevant person or action visible. ShortMatic’s creator guide cautions that the process still requires creator judgment and does not promise virality. Automation can help surface possibilities; it cannot decide whether a moment is accurate, coherent, or right for your audience.

- How are clips selected? Does the tool propose moments for approval, or do you want to find and cut them manually?
- Can you correct the details? Check how captions and vertical framing can be inspected and adjusted before export.
- Where does the workflow end? Confirm the export destinations and whether the tool’s handoff suits the platforms you use.
- What are the limits and terms? Compare the current price structure, access period, and any usage limits—not just the headline price.
If you want automated suggestions from long recordings, a review-queue workflow is relevant. If you prefer to select every moment and make edits yourself, a general-purpose editor offers a different kind of control. Neither approach removes the need to watch the finished clip.
ShortMatic pricing: verify the live terms
A vendor search listing showed Free, Creator at $7.99, Pro at $19, and Agency at $49, with paid plans described as 30-day one-time access. The listing did not establish the currency for those dollar amounts. Who this workflow is for
ShortMatic’s review-queue approach is most relevant if you already have long recordings and want help finding possible short clips without giving up final editorial control. It is not a substitute for recording content, checking context, correcting captions, or deciding what represents your channel. If your goal is to generate a complete video from a prompt, confirm that you are looking at a product built for that input instead.
