For a living room, a short-throw laser projector can create a large image from a spot close to the wall. The Hisense PX3-PRO is a broad-use ultra-short-throw (UST) candidate; the Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS800 is worth considering for sports and brighter rooms. Those are editorial recommendations from TechRadar, not results of a head-to-head lab test. Your room, target image size, screen and local price should decide between them.

What to look for in a short-throw laser projector

“Short throw” describes a projector designed to make a large image from a shorter distance than a conventional projector. UST models take that further, sitting close to the projection surface—often on a cabinet beneath the screen. Exact placement still varies by model and image size, so confirm the manufacturer’s placement chart before buying rather than relying on the category label.

  • Room light: Ambient light reduces perceived contrast and image impact. A brighter-rated model may be a more suitable starting point for daytime sports, but a manufacturer lumen figure is not an independent measurement or a guarantee of a particular result in your room.
  • Image size and placement: Choose the screen diagonal first, then check the model’s supported size and placement geometry. Make sure the projector can sit where your furniture and room layout allow.
  • Screen: A UST-compatible screen can be important to the setup. Confirm compatibility for the specific projector; “ALR” or “UST” in a screen description alone does not establish that it will work well with every model.
  • Use: Movie viewers may prioritize a controlled viewing environment and screen pairing. Sports viewers may value brightness and a practical daytime setup. Gaming and mixed-use buyers should also verify the features they need on the current product page; the source material here does not establish a comparative gaming-performance result.
  • Local purchase details: Check current local price, stock, warranty, and what is included. Those details are not established consistently across markets for the models below.

Two UST laser projectors to shortlist

These models are documented UST candidates, not a universal ranking. TechRadar’s buying guide names the PX3-Pro its UST pick for most people and places the LS800 in a sports/bright-room role. That is the publisher’s editorial positioning; the cited material does not provide a common test protocol or independently measured comparative results.

Hisense PX3-PRO 3,000 lumens; projection size 80–150 inches; 4K smart laser cinema projector with Dolby Vision/Atmos. Hisense product material, accessed 2026. These are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements. Hisense product page Broad-use UST pick for most people, according to TechRadar. Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS800 4,000 lumens and image size up to 150 inches on Epson’s US product page, accessed 2026. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Epson describes it as a super-ultra-short-throw laser projector and lists its SilverFlex ALR screen as an optional pairing. Epson product page Sports/bright-room choice, according to TechRadar. The lumen figures should not be treated as a direct performance comparison: they are manufacturer specifications, and the sources do not establish that the models were measured under the same conditions. Actual perceived image quality also depends on room lighting, screen, image size and setup.

Which model fits your room and viewing habits?

Choose the PX3-PRO as a broad-use candidate

Hisense lists an 80–150-inch projection-size range for the PX3-PRO. That gives buyers a stated range to check against their room, but it does not mean every size will suit every placement. Before ordering, use the manufacturer’s geometry information to confirm the required distance and whether the image size fits the wall or screen you plan to use. TechRadar’s “for most people” label is an editorial recommendation, not proof that the model is the best choice for every budget or market.

Consider the LS800 for sports or a brighter room

TechRadar positions the LS800 for sports and bright-room viewing. Epson’s US page lists a manufacturer-rated 4,000 lumens and an image size up to 150 inches. Neither figure establishes how bright or contrast-rich the picture will appear in a particular room; treat them as specifications to compare alongside a suitable screen and your likely lighting conditions.

For movies, gaming or mixed use, verify the details that matter

The cited guide describes the PX3-PRO as a broad-use option, but the available product material does not provide a controlled comparison of movie performance, gaming latency or other use-specific outcomes between these models. If a particular feature matters to you, verify it on the manufacturer’s current regional page and assess it against your actual setup rather than assuming that a general recommendation answers that question.

Plan the screen and placement together

A UST projector and its screen are a system: the image size, projector position and screen surface all affect whether the setup works in the room. Samsung’s Philippines product material recommends using a screen dedicated to UST projection; that is manufacturer guidance, not independent proof that every buyer must purchase one. The page is regional, so do not use it to infer local price or availability. Samsung Philippines LSP9T product page

Check the screen maker’s compatibility information for the exact projector and screen size, and confirm what is included in the projector package before budgeting for accessories.

Buying checklist

  1. Measure the viewing area. Decide on a target diagonal and identify the usable wall or screen width.
  2. Confirm the placement geometry. Check the manufacturer’s chart for the exact model and target size, then compare it with the depth and height of the cabinet or shelf available.
  3. Assess the room’s light. Consider whether you will watch mainly at night or with daylight and room lights present. Do not treat a claimed lumen number as a substitute for this assessment.
  4. Select a compatible screen. If using a UST or ALR screen, confirm compatibility with the projector model and chosen image size.
  5. Verify the purchase in your market. Check current price, stock, warranty terms and included accessories on the local product listing or with the seller; availability and pricing are not established here.
