The Sharp R-995DW combines microwave, convection and grill cooking, but its large footprint and uncertain new-stock availability make fit and condition important parts of the buying decision. Sharp’s Australian specification sheet lists 1000 W microwave output, inverter technology and 21 auto menus; the manual also documents two combination modes and specific accessory-safety rules. There is no strong independent test or reliability data in the available evidence, so treat owner reviews as personal reports rather than proof of typical performance.
What the Sharp R-995DW does
The R-995DW is an Australian-market convection microwave. Sharp’s 2016 specification sheet lists 1000 W microwave output, inverter technology, convection, grill, combination cooking, sensor technology, six microwave power levels and weight defrost. Appliances Online lists a nominal 40 L capacity.

It can be used as a microwave, grill or convection oven, as well as in two mix modes. Those mix modes combine microwave power with either grill heat or convection heat. Convection can be used with or without preheating; the manual demonstrates convection settings up to 250°C. A manual cooking sequence can contain up to four programmes.
Sharp’s sheet lists 21 auto menus. The manual separately describes four Sensor Cook menus and three convenience-cook menus; these are different menu groupings, not competing totals. Sensor Cook detects vapour to calculate cooking power and time.

How practical are the controls?
Automatic menus and sensor cooking offer shortcuts, but combination cooking is less automatic: the manual’s procedures require choosing the mode and entering settings such as time, microwave power or temperature. One owner on ProductReview.com.au said this made combined cooking less convenient than on an older Sharp model. That is an individual experience, not evidence that every user will find the controls difficult.
If you expect to rely on presets, check that the documented menus suit your usual cooking. If you prefer manual control and are comfortable learning a sequence of settings, the mix modes provide more flexibility than microwave-only cooking. The manual is the best guide for exact button sequences and accessory placement.

Will it fit your kitchen and cookware?
Appliances Online lists external dimensions of 550 × 368 × 537 mm (W × H × D), a net weight of 19 kg, a 40 L nominal cavity and a 362 mm turntable. Allow for the ventilation clearances specified in the manual, not just the appliance’s outer dimensions. Check the electrical suitability for your location, too.

A 40 L nominal capacity does not guarantee that a large rectangular casserole dish will fit or rotate. One owner reported that some casserole dishes did not fit; that account is anecdotal. Measure your cookware and compare it with the usable cavity and turntable space before buying.

Included accessories
The Appliances Online listing specifies a high rack, a low rack, two square trays and a roller stay. Sharp and the retailer identify the optional EBR9900W trim kit. Confirm the accessories actually included with the unit being sold, especially if it is used or listed as remaining stock.
Important square-tray warning
The Sharp R-995D(W) operation manual says: “Never use the square tray for microwave cooking as this may cause arcing.” Follow the manual’s instructions for which accessories can be used in each mode; do not assume that a tray suitable for convection is safe for microwave operation. The manual also warns that the door, cabinet, cavity, accessories and dishes can become hot, and directs users to use thick oven gloves when handling items.

What do owners say, and how reliable is that evidence?
ProductReview.com.au contains sharply mixed individual reports. Some owners praise cooking or convection baking; others describe menu frustrations, changed automatic programmes, less room for dishes than in an older appliance, disappointing or uneven convection results, early failures, or a safety-switch trip after preheating. These accounts are unverified and cannot establish a common defect, typical cooking result or failure rate.
Andoo’s page showed a 3.9 rating from seven reviews when checked in October 2026. That small retailer-hosted sample is volatile, so it is not a robust measure of reliability. The sources reviewed provide no model-specific independent laboratory test or reliable failure statistic. Inverter technology is a listed feature, not evidence by itself of lower energy use.

Is the R-995DW still available new?
Availability in checked Australian channels was uncertain in October 2026. Andoo labelled it no longer available; Appliances Online still had a specification page, which does not confirm stock; and the current Sharp Australia microwave category listing checked did not show the model. This does not prove it is impossible to find: remaining stock, secondhand units and marketplace listings can change quickly.
Before buying, confirm the exact model suffix, seller and condition, included accessories, return policy, warranty region and access to service. Sharp’s manual says its warranty notice applies only to products sold in Australia and New Zealand, and directs Australian owners seeking approved service-centre locations to Sharp Australia. Do not assume that a used or imported unit has applicable warranty coverage.
Where to check the manual, service and parts
- Appliances Online’s R-995DW listing gives the listed dimensions, capacity and included accessories, but its product page is not confirmation of current stock.
- Use the Sharp R-995D(W) operation manual for operating sequences, ventilation and accessory instructions. For approved Australian service-centre information and model-specific parts, contact Sharp Australia through the route provided in the manual.
- If you are searching for a replacement turntable or asking what the black slide-in tray is, verify the part against the exact model suffix and manual, or ask Sharp support. Do not identify or use an accessory based on appearance alone.
Sharp’s 2016 Australian specification sheet lists a one-year warranty, while the retailer describes one-year domestic parts-and-labour coverage. Confirm the terms for the particular sale, product condition and region rather than assuming those terms transfer to a used or imported appliance.
