The Shark Cordless Detect Pro is a light, maneuverable cordless vacuum with dirt- and floor-detection features, but the name covers different regional models and bundles. In the US, Shark lists the auto-empty system as model IW3511. Its main appeal is convenience for homes with mostly hard floors; the trade-offs are battery life that depends on the mode and variant, a small dust cup on the vacuum itself, and the space and cost of the dock.
Which Shark Cordless Detect Pro is this review about?
“Detect Pro” is a product family, not one globally identical configuration. Shark’s US product page identifies the auto-empty version as the IW3511, while TechRadar’s review describes UK configurations, including models with and without an auto-empty base. Model codes, bundles and stated specifications can differ by market, so UK review observations should not be treated as measurements of every US IW3511 bundle.

Shark calls the US IW3511 the “Shark Cordless Detect Pro Auto-Empty System with QuadClean Multi-Surface Brushroll.” Its listed box contents are the cordless stick vacuum, a 2L auto-empty charging dock, lithium-ion battery, QuadClean brushroll, 8-inch crevice tool, pet multi-tool and odor neutralizer puck. Shark lists a 14.8 lb product weight, a 10.4-inch cleaning path and a five-year limited warranty. These are manufacturer-listed details; verify the live product listing and warranty terms for the specific bundle you are considering.
How well does it clean?
TechRadar characterizes its tested UK Detect Pro as light and easy to maneuver, with detection features and enough cleaning performance for many homes. Its particular strength is a home with mostly hard floors. The review also flags the small dust cup on the vacuum itself, especially relevant to versions without the dock. Those are qualitative observations about UK variants, not independent test results for the US IW3511.

Shark says the vacuum detects dirt and floor conditions and adjusts power. The manufacturer claims cleaning increases “up to 50%” when carpet and dirt are detected; the stated comparison is Eco versus Detect Boost with both Carpet and Dirt, based on ASTM F608. That is Shark’s claim under its stated conditions, not an independent confirmation of performance in a typical home.
How long does the battery last?
There is no single runtime figure that applies to every Detect Pro. TechRadar associates the 60-minute maximum with Eco mode and says the US version it discusses has a shorter stated maximum than the tested UK configuration. Maximum runtime is mode- and battery-dependent; using a higher-power setting can change how long a clean lasts. Check the runtime claim for the exact regional model and battery, and consider whether it reflects the mode you will actually use. The available review evidence does not establish an independent runtime measurement for the US IW3511.

Does the auto-empty dock make it worth buying?
The dock is the clearest convenience advantage of the IW3511 bundle. It charges the vacuum and transfers collected debris from the handheld dust cup, reducing how often you need to empty that smaller cup by hand. Shark lists a 2L dock for the US model and claims it can hold up to 30 days of dust and debris; the duration is a manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed interval for every household. The base also occupies floor space, and the reviewed UK dock should not be assumed identical to the US bundle.

It is more useful if you vacuum frequently or want fewer manual emptying steps. If floor space is tight, or you do not mind emptying a dust cup yourself, compare the non-dock configuration where available rather than paying for a feature you may not value.

What do Shark’s filtration and capacity claims mean?
Shark says the system’s filtration captures 99.97% of dust and allergens down to 0.3 microns under ASTM F1977. Shark defines “allergens” in this claim as non-living matter. This is a manufacturer-reported test claim with stated conditions; it is not evidence that the vacuum eliminates allergens in a home. The separate “up to 30 days” dock-capacity statement is also a Shark claim, and actual emptying frequency will depend on debris and use.
Who should consider the Detect Pro?
- Good fit: People who prioritize maneuverability, have mostly hard floors, and want the reduced hands-on emptying of an auto-empty dock.
- Consider carefully: Homes with substantial carpet, larger cleaning areas, or a preference for sustained higher-power cleaning, because practical battery life depends on mode and variant.
- Check the bundle: Confirm the exact model code, whether the dock is included, included pet and crevice tools, warranty terms, return policy and current price in your region.
- Compare fairly: Compare runtime only when the mode and test basis match, and check dust capacity alongside how often you will need to empty it.
Verdict
The Shark Cordless Detect Pro is most compelling as a convenient, easy-to-maneuver vacuum for mostly hard-floor homes, especially in the US IW3511 bundle with its auto-empty dock. It is a less straightforward choice if you need long sessions at high power, have a carpet-heavy home, or do not want a bulky base. Before buying, verify that the listing is for the exact regional model and bundle you want; runtime, included accessories and dock configuration are not interchangeable across every Detect Pro.
