You can set up Google Wallet on a Fitbit only if your model is supported, Google Wallet for Fitbit is available in your country, and your exact bank and card are eligible. If those checks pass, add the card in the Fitbit app, verify it with the card issuer, and use the Fitbit at a contactless terminal.
Does your Fitbit support Google Wallet?
Google lists these supported Fitbit devices: Versa Special Edition, Versa 2, Versa 3, Versa 4, Sense, Sense 2, Charge 3 Special Edition, Charge 4, Charge 5, Charge 6, and Fitbit Ace LTE. The regular Versa is not included in that list; the Versa Special Edition is. Check Google’s current Fitbit device and tap-to-pay guidance before setup, since eligibility can change.

Device support is only one part of eligibility. Google Wallet for Fitbit must also be supported where you live, and your specific bank and card must appear on the applicable country list. For example, Google publishes a United Kingdom list of supported Fitbit payment methods; a card appearing on one country’s list does not establish support in another.

Do not assume a card that works in Google Wallet on an Android phone will work on a Fitbit. The Fitbit version has its own supported-card list, and a physical card’s contactless feature alone does not prove compatibility.

How do I set up Google Wallet on my Fitbit?
Have your phone and Fitbit nearby. Google’s setup process uses the Fitbit app, a Google Account, and a four-digit device PIN.
- Check eligibility: Confirm your Fitbit model, country, bank, and exact card against Google’s current Fitbit guidance and country-specific payment list.
- Open your device settings: In the Fitbit app on your phone, tap Today, then Devices, then select your Fitbit.
- Sign in and set a PIN: Sign in to a Google Account when prompted, then create a four-digit PIN for the Fitbit. A PIN is required to pay.
- Open Google Wallet: In the Fitbit app, select Google Wallet, then choose New credit or debit card. You can scan the card or enter its details manually.
- Enter the security code: Provide the card’s three-digit security code when asked.
- Verify with the issuer: Choose an available verification method and enter the code sent or provided by your card issuer. The issuer must approve the card for use.
Google also allows you to select a card that is already in Google Wallet, if it is eligible for Fitbit. To add another card later, open Google Wallet in the Fitbit app, choose Add to Watch, and complete the card-entry and verification steps. The first card added is the default. Discount, loyalty, and rewards cards cannot currently be added to Google Wallet on a Fitbit.

How do I pay with my Fitbit?
At a contactless terminal that accepts Google Pay, open Google Wallet on your Fitbit and hold the device near the reader. Wait for a sound or vibration to indicate the payment was sent. If you need to use a card other than the default, swipe to that card before presenting the Fitbit to the reader.

Why can’t I add my card?
- Country, bank, or card not supported: Check the Fitbit-specific payment methods page for your country and look for the exact issuer and card type. A bank may take a few days to activate support, according to Google.
- Card works on your phone but not Fitbit: Phone and Fitbit support are not identical. Confirm the card is specifically supported for Fitbit rather than relying on its availability in Android’s Google Wallet app.
- Network error: Keep your phone near the Fitbit, turn on Bluetooth on both devices, and make sure the phone has an internet connection through Wi-Fi or cellular data.
- Issuer rejects setup or details do not match: Google’s general card setup help notes that an issuer can decline a tap-to-pay provisioning request. Check the name, security code, and billing address you entered, then contact the card issuer if the issue persists.
- Cards disappeared after removing the screen lock: Removing the Fitbit screen lock deletes cards stored on that device for security. Set a screen lock again, then add and verify the card again.
What if I change phones or lose my Fitbit?
When switching phones, install the Fitbit app on the new phone and open Google Wallet there. Google says previously added Fitbit cards should appear. If your Fitbit is lost or stolen, use the Fitbit app on your phone to remove its cards; the four-digit PIN is required to pay, but removing the cards is the appropriate way to secure them.

What happened to Fitbit Pay?
Google’s transition guidance said existing Fitbit Pay cards could be used only until July 29, 2024, and that cards and information would not transfer automatically to Google Wallet. That date has passed. Google also said that after moving to Google Wallet, users could not return to Fitbit Pay; this is transition history, not a current Fitbit Pay availability promise.
