SensorFlow and Plausible solve different analytics problems. SensorFlow describes a self-hosted pipeline for compatible Sensors Data SDK events, stored in ClickHouse and queried or visualized with SQL and Superset. Plausible is designed for website traffic and acquisition reporting, either as a managed Cloud service or a self-hosted Community Edition (CE). Choose by the data you need and the work your team can own—not by treating the products as interchangeable.
This comparison concerns the analytics project at sensorflow.site. It is not SensorFlow Co., the separate hotel energy solutions business.

What kind of analytics do you need?
Choose Plausible for website reporting
Plausible’s stated focus is lightweight website analytics, including traffic and acquisition reporting. Its dashboard-led workflow is a natural fit when the questions are about how people arrive at and use a website, rather than building a broader product-event data pipeline. Plausible offers both managed Cloud and self-hosted CE editions.
Evaluate SensorFlow for product-event pipelines
SensorFlow presents a self-hosted path for events from compatible Sensors Data SDKs into ClickHouse, with SQL and Superset for analysis. That may suit a team seeking direct control over event data and willing to validate SDK versions and event meaning against its own implementation. SensorFlow’s product description is not independent certification that every SDK version or event model will work.
#1 Best Overall
The products are not established as feature-for-feature substitutes. Start with the reports and event model you actually need, then assess the deployment and migration work that follows.
How do deployment and control differ?
| Option | Who operates it | What the operator takes on |
|---|---|---|
| Plausible Cloud | Plausible manages the service. | Plausible’s edition comparison says it handles infrastructure, backups, security, and updates. The customer uses the managed service rather than maintaining the CE stack. |
| Plausible CE | The organization running the self-hosted deployment. | Installation, maintenance, upgrades, server capacity, uptime, backups, security, and stability. Plausible describes CE as community-supported, not as including premium support. |
| SensorFlow deployment | The organization operating its infrastructure. | Hosting and operations, including the infrastructure needed for its deployment. SensorFlow says production SDK ingestion requires an activated deployment license. |
Plausible describes Cloud and CE this way: “The same code runs in two ways.” That describes its two editions; it does not mean their operational responsibilities are the same. Plausible CE is released under AGPLv3 or later, according to its edition comparison.
Rank #2
Self-hosting offers more direct control over infrastructure, but transfers day-to-day responsibility to the operator. The practical comparison should include staff time and operational competence alongside software charges.

Plausible says it does not use cookies, collect personal data, use cross-site tracking, or build user profiles. Those are Plausible’s product claims, not a blanket determination that a particular website has no consent or other legal duties. Requirements depend on jurisdiction and the site’s full implementation.
Plausible also says its software is open source and its code can be inspected. Inspectability is useful for review, but it does not by itself prove legal compliance or ensure that a deployment is configured securely. Similarly, running SensorFlow on infrastructure you control does not automatically guarantee privacy or security; the organization remains responsible for its operational controls.
How should you compare cost?
SensorFlow’s product page, as captured October 7, 2026, listed a deployment license starting at USD 349 per year. The same page listed a first-month-free offer and a 50% discount on the first paid order. These offers and prices can change; check the current page before budgeting. SensorFlow says hosting and operations are additional costs.
Plausible says Cloud is subscription-funded. CE has no subscription fee payable to Plausible, but the operator still pays for infrastructure and maintenance. That does not make CE cost-free.
The available figures do not establish a normalized comparison for equivalent traffic or event volume, server capacity, support, or staff time. There is no sound basis here to declare one product cheaper overall. Compare the full workload and support requirements for your own deployment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you validate before migrating?
Do not switch solely because one product carries a privacy label or because an ingestion endpoint returns a successful HTTP response. First check that the target can support the events and reports your team depends on. SensorFlow’s comparison material specifically advises validating the event pipeline.
- Inventory the current event model. List the events, properties, identities, timestamps, and reports that production users or business processes rely on.
- Confirm compatibility. For SensorFlow, check the exact Sensors Data SDK versions in use and verify how their events are interpreted. The project’s product material does not constitute independent compatibility certification.
- Test ingestion behavior. In a non-production environment, check identity joins, event properties, timestamps, and retry behavior—not just whether requests receive successful responses.
- Rebuild and compare reporting. Confirm that the SQL/Superset analyses or website reports you need can be produced in the chosen workflow, and investigate material differences before directing production traffic.
- Plan operations and rollback. Assign responsibility for deployment, backups, security, capacity, and uptime where applicable. Define how to restore the existing pipeline or reporting path if the migration fails.
Which one should you evaluate first?
Start with Plausible if
- Your main need is website traffic and acquisition reporting.
- You prefer a managed service, or you have the capacity to maintain a self-hosted CE deployment.
- You want to assess Plausible’s stated privacy approach as one part of a broader site and governance review.
Start with SensorFlow if
- You need a self-managed pipeline for compatible Sensors Data SDK events.
- Your team is prepared to validate the exact SDK and event behavior it uses.
- You can operate the relevant infrastructure and are comfortable with a ClickHouse, SQL, and Superset-oriented workflow.
These are conditional fit recommendations based on the products’ published descriptions, not hands-on tests. Plausible’s About page says the company crossed USD 1 million in annual recurring revenue in 2022; that is a dated company-reported milestone, not a current revenue figure or evidence of comparative performance.
