Open Gmail’s Drafts label, select the message, check its recipients and contents, then click Send. Gmail saves unfinished messages automatically, so you can return to them later. If you are not ready to send immediately, you can schedule the message instead.
How do I send a draft email in Gmail?
-
Open Gmail on your computer. If you are starting a new message, click Compose, enter recipients in To, Cc, or Bcc, add a subject, and write your message. Gmail automatically saves an unfinished message as a draft. See Google’s instructions for composing and sending email.

What should I check before sending?
Recipients and visibility
Use To for the main recipients. People listed in Cc can see the other recipients. Bcc hides those addresses from other recipients, although a Bcc recipient can see the addresses in To and Cc. Non-Gmail recipients may not see that they were added as Bcc. Google explains recipient fields in its Gmail sending instructions.
Attachments
Google states that personal Gmail accounts have a total attachment limit of 25 MB. Work and school account limits are set by the Workspace administrator. If attachments exceed the applicable limit, Gmail replaces them with a Google Drive link. Attachments count toward Google storage, and accounts at their storage limit cannot send or receive attachments. Gmail also blocks some file types, including executable files such as .exe, for security reasons. See Google’s Gmail attachment guidance.
If an upload fails, remove the attachment and add it again, check available storage and your connection, and wait for the upload to finish before sending.

| Choice | Timing | Changing course |
|---|---|---|
| Send now | The message is sent when you click Send. | Gmail’s Undo option is available only for the short cancellation period configured in Settings: 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds. |
| Schedule send | Choose a date and time; Google says the message may be sent a few minutes after the selected time and uses the time zone in which it was scheduled. | Cancel the scheduled message to return it to Drafts, edit it, then schedule it again. |
Schedule a message on a computer
-
Open the draft and click the arrow beside Send.
-
Choose Schedule send, then select a date and time.
-
To make a change before it sends, open Scheduled, cancel the message, edit the draft, and schedule it again. Canceling returns it to Drafts.
Google states that Gmail can have up to 100 scheduled emails. See Google’s instructions for scheduling email.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do I undo a sent email in Gmail?
Immediately after sending, Gmail displays a Message sent notification with an Undo option. You can configure the cancellation period in Gmail Settings to 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds. The option is a brief chance to cancel a recent send, not a way to recall a message later. Google documents the setting in its sending instructions.
What if a sent email seems to be missing?
-
Check Sent to see whether Gmail sent the message, and Drafts to see whether it remains unsent.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSpecial offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
If it is in Sent, ask the recipient to check Spam or Junk.
-
Allow time for a delivery error message. A slow connection can delay sending, so do not assume a message arrived just because you clicked Send.
These checks follow Google’s guidance for messages that cannot be found or delivered.
