Yes—you can self-host an AI workflow tool such as n8n on a Bluehost self-managed VPS, but “self-hosting” does not necessarily mean the AI model runs on that server. You can host the workflow engine on the VPS and send requests to an external model API, or configure a local model through Ollama. Those choices have different compute and data-flow requirements. Bluehost provides root access and infrastructure; you manage the operating system, software, configuration, and applications.
What self-hosting an AI workflow on Bluehost means
Bluehost describes its U.S. self-managed VPS as a server environment with root SSH and API access, NVMe storage, and the option to deploy software using Docker/Compose or system packages. The company also advertises one-click self-hosted n8n, with workflow steps able to use OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, or local models via Ollama. These are Bluehost’s stated capabilities, not independent performance findings. See Bluehost’s VPS plans and its AI apps information.

The workflow engine and the model are separate parts of the setup. n8n can run on your VPS while sending prompts to an external provider; in that arrangement, model inference happens outside your VPS. If you configure Ollama and a local model, inference happens on the VPS, so available CPU, memory, and storage matter much more. Bluehost’s listing of Ollama does not establish that every model will run well on every tier.
Choose where model inference will happen
Workflow engine on the VPS, model through an external API
This option runs n8n on Bluehost but sends model requests to a service such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or OpenRouter. The VPS still needs enough resources for n8n, its database or other supporting services, and the volume of workflow activity. Model computation is handled by the external service rather than by the VPS.

Workflow engine and model on the VPS
Bluehost says its AI workflow offering can connect to local models via Ollama. A local-model setup adds inference to the work the server must do; the tier specifications alone do not tell you which models will perform acceptably. Choose only after accounting for your intended model and testing its requirements against the resources available to your VPS.
Compare Bluehost’s listed U.S. VPS tiers
Bluehost’s U.S. plan page lists the following specifications. Its labels—such as “Docker/AI agents” and “multi-container production”—are vendor positioning, not benchmarks or a guarantee of capacity for a particular workflow.
| Bluehost tier | Listed resources | Bluehost’s positioning |
|---|---|---|
| NVMe 2 | 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe | Light projects |
| NVMe 4 | 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe | Docker/AI agents |
| NVMe 8 | 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe | Multi-container production |
| NVMe 16 | 8 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 450 GB NVMe | Heavier workloads |
These are Bluehost’s listed U.S. specifications, accessed October 7, 2026; the page publication date is not stated. Treat the figures as plan specifications, not evidence of execution speed, supported concurrency, or local-model performance. Bluehost also says VPS resources differ from VDS resources in capacity and whether hardware-level resources are shared. That is Bluehost’s guidance; select capacity according to your own workload rather than assuming a particular tier is sufficient. Its VPS and VDS explanation describes the distinction.

Estimate the resources your workflow needs
Before selecting a tier, map what will run and how often. Consider:
- Concurrency: how many executions may overlap.
- Execution frequency: how often workflows trigger and how many steps each run performs.
- Payload size: the amount of data workflows receive, process, and retain.
- Storage: database growth, logs, workflow data, and any local model files.
- Service layout: whether n8n, a database, Ollama, or other components will run in separate containers.
- Inference location: whether a model API handles inference or the VPS must run a local model as well.
Compare those needs with the listed CPU, RAM, and NVMe capacity, then validate the setup under your own usage. Bluehost’s plan descriptions do not provide independent workload benchmarks.

Bluehost describes a self-managed VPS as “your own private slice of a server, with full root access.” Root access makes it possible to choose and configure software, but it also leaves the customer responsible for the software stack. Bluehost characterizes its support as infrastructure-only: it maintains hardware, network, and virtualization, while customers manage the operating system, configuration, and applications. Its self-managed VPS help article explains that responsibility split.

Bluehost’s cited pages do not promise that it will handle those application-level tasks. The company also says shared hosting does not provide the root access required for its AI apps; its VPS guidance is therefore the relevant option when root-level deployment is required.
Check the current price and terms before ordering
On the U.S. n8n VPS page, Bluehost displayed an introductory price of $4.69 per month on a 24-month term and a renewal rate of $5.69 per month, accessed October 7, 2026; taxes may be excluded. These are page figures for that offer, not timeless or region-wide prices. Another Bluehost VPS search-result snapshot showed a different introductory starting figure, so confirm the selected term, renewal rate, taxes, and checkout total on the live U.S. page before purchasing. Regional pages may show different currencies and amounts. See the U.S. n8n offer and general VPS plans.
Is Bluehost VPS a fit for self-hosting n8n?
A Bluehost self-managed VPS is a plausible fit if you want root access to deploy n8n and are prepared to operate the server yourself. It can host the workflow engine while model requests go to an external provider; Bluehost also advertises an Ollama route for local models. Whether a particular tier can support your concurrency, containers, or local model is not established by the plan descriptions. No independent performance figures for these AI workloads are provided on the cited Bluehost pages, so make the choice based on your requirements and verify the live plan details before checkout.
