Wacom says product registration is limited to the original first-time purchaser of a new product bought from Wacom or a valid reseller. It does not issue a second bundled-software license for a second-hand device. A used tablet can still be used on a computer: install the current driver, and registration is not required for ordinary operation.
What changes if you buy a used Wacom tablet?
Wacom distinguishes registration and bundled-software eligibility from using the hardware. Its second-hand product guidance, dated January 28, 2022, says registration is for the original first-time new purchaser who bought directly from Wacom or a valid reseller, and that Wacom cannot issue a second software license for a used device.

Wacom also states: “Regardless a Wacom tablet can still be used on your computer even without registration.” Install the current driver to use the tablet; registering it is not a prerequisite to ordinary operation.

Do not assume that software eligibility transfers with the physical tablet. Offers and license terms vary; Wacom says most bundled software is a 90-day trial, and some offer details depend on the product. See its software license and serial-number guidance.

How to set up a used tablet for ordinary use
- Download and install the current driver for your Wacom device from Wacom’s driver support page: Wacom Drivers.
- Connect the tablet to the computer and complete any device setup prompted by Wacom Center.
- Use the tablet without attempting registration to obtain a second bundled-software license; Wacom’s published policy does not provide one for a second-hand device.
How an eligible first-time purchaser registers a device
Wacom’s documented process is for eligible first-time purchasers, not a workaround for second-hand software eligibility. In its registration instructions, updated August 29, 2024, Wacom describes this flow:
- Install the driver and connect the device.
- Open Wacom Center and follow the setup prompts.
- Log in to a Wacom Account or create one.
- In Wacom Center, open Device Manager and register the device.
- After registration, follow the Software Offers link, where applicable, to select and redeem bundled software.
Offer availability and licensing depend on the product; registration does not mean every bundled application is a permanent license.

Does the original owner’s registration transfer?
Wacom’s used-device guidance does not describe a general owner-to-owner registration or software-license transfer. Its separate account email-change article concerns maintaining an account, not transferring a used tablet to a new owner. It notes that support may confirm whether a supported product registration can be transferred in that account-change context, that software availability can prevent transfer, and that a license key can be used only once. Those conditions do not establish a transfer route for a second-hand purchase.

What about warranty coverage?
Wacom’s second-hand product page says its Limited warranty does not apply to second-hand devices. The page does not specify a geographic scope, so check the warranty terms applicable to your region rather than treating that statement as a jurisdiction-independent legal conclusion.
Find the tablet’s model and serial number
If you need to identify the device, Wacom says a connected tablet’s model and serial number can be found in Wacom Center under Support and Diagnostic Data. The physical label location varies by device; consult Wacom’s model and serial number guide, updated April 29, 2024.

Legacy devices and account-access problems
Older software-bundle registration
Some older devices use a Software Bundle Download (SBD) key in the Wacom Account’s Product Registration area, according to Wacom’s legacy-device instructions. This is an alternate software-bundle workflow, not an exception to Wacom’s second-hand restriction.

Login or account pages fail to load
Wacom says cookie restrictions in a browser can cause account login or loading problems. Its account-access troubleshooting page addresses that issue. Resolving a login problem does not change whether a used product qualifies for registration or another software license.
