If a Selenium screenshot stops where the browser’s visible area ends, it is probably a viewport screenshot—not a full-page capture. In Python with Firefox, use Selenium’s documented full-document screenshot method. If the image is already page-height but its lower content is blank or missing, wait for that content to render or lazy-load before capturing.
First identify what is cut off
There are two different problems that can look alike:

- The image ends at the viewport edge. The ordinary WebDriver screenshot captures the current browsing-context viewport, so content below the fold is not included. You need a full-document capture, not just a larger window. Selenium documents window sizing separately from screenshot capture; the WebDriver screenshot command is viewport-based.
- The image is tall enough, but the bottom is blank, stale, or missing content. Investigate page readiness and deferred resources, such as lazy-loaded images. A full-page capture does not by itself ensure the page’s application data or assets have finished loading.
- Even the visible viewport is unexpectedly cropped. Check the configured window size, browser and driver environment, device scale, and whether you are inspecting the output file from the current run.
Python and Firefox: capture the full document
Selenium’s Python Firefox API documents get_full_page_screenshot_as_file() and save_full_page_screenshot() for saving a full-document PNG. The first method returns True when it saves successfully and False on an I/O error. This is a Firefox Python API, not a portable method established for every browser and language binding. If the full-height image has an incomplete bottom
Navigation completing does not necessarily mean all client-rendered content is ready. Selenium’s navigation behavior waits for the page-load event, while an application may continue fetching data, rendering components, running animations, or loading images afterward. Use a wait for the condition your test actually needs, such as a page-specific element appearing or becoming visible, instead of relying on an unexplained fixed sleep.
Lazy loading defers resources until they are needed; lower-page images may not load until they approach the viewport. MDN’s lazy-loading overview explains this behavior. Where appropriate, scroll through the page to trigger viewport-based loading, wait for important assets or application content, then return to the intended capture position:

Infinite-scroll pages may keep appending content; some sites use nested scroll containers; and a site-specific readiness signal may be more reliable. Selenium’s Python API documents execute_script() for synchronous JavaScript execution, but the appropriate condition depends on the page.

If you only need more of the visible page
Increase the viewport when the requirement is a larger, bounded visible area—not the entire document. Selenium exposes set_window_size() and maximize_window() as window-geometry operations. After changing the window, inspect the actual viewport and output dimensions; maximizing does not turn a viewport screenshot into a full-document screenshot.

The documented full-document methods described above are for Selenium’s Python Firefox API. The evidence here does not establish a single portable full-page capture method for all browser and binding combinations. Selenium’s Chrome documentation includes Chrome-specific capabilities, but that alone does not establish a complete, version-safe full-page Chrome recipe. Check the exact Selenium binding, browser, driver, and version you use, and validate the resulting image rather than assuming an API transfers across them.
Validate the saved screenshot
- Confirm the screenshot call completed successfully and the file path is writable.
- Open the output from the current run and check its width and height against the intended capture scope.
- Compare the bottom edge with the actual page: is content below the fold absent, or is the page-height image incomplete?
- For missing lower content, verify the relevant application state and deferred images were ready before capture.

Does maximizing the browser capture the entire page?
No. Maximizing increases the visible window area; it does not change a viewport screenshot into a full-document capture.

Why is a full-page screenshot missing images near the bottom?
Those images or other page content may not have loaded before capture. Wait for the relevant page-specific readiness condition and, where appropriate, scroll to trigger lazy loading.
