One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchShort answer: Selenium 3 does not have one Firefox compatibility range of its own. If you use geckodriver, Mozilla says Selenium must be version 3.11 or later, and the Firefox versions supported depend on the exact geckodriver release and binding. If you mean the historical Firefox 3 browser, it is not listed in Mozilla’s current geckodriver compatibility table.
Which Firefox versions work with Selenium 3?
Check the compatibility row for the specific geckodriver release you plan to use. Mozilla’s table maps driver releases to Firefox versions and states the Selenium or language-binding minimums. It does not establish one range that applies to every Selenium 3 setup.
| geckodriver release | Firefox range in Mozilla’s table | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| 0.30.0 | Firefox 78 ESR through 90 | This row gives both a minimum and a maximum. |
| 0.33.0 | Firefox 102 ESR through 120 | This row gives both a minimum and a maximum. |
| 0.37.1 | Firefox 115 ESR minimum; no maximum shown | Mozilla lists a minimum rather than a closed range. |
These are driver-specific compatibility facts, not a general guarantee that any Selenium 3 release works with every Firefox version in a row. Check Mozilla’s maintained geckodriver support table for your exact driver and binding.
What does Selenium 3.11 have to do with geckodriver?
Mozilla says Selenium users need version 3.11 or later to use geckodriver. The current table also identifies a Python binding minimum of 3.14 for its listed drivers. Verify the requirement for your binding in the table rather than assuming the Selenium core version tells the whole story.
#1 Best Overall
Geckodriver is not simply another name for the old FirefoxDriver. Mozilla says FirefoxDriver had to be discontinued with Firefox 47 because it did not support Firefox’s newer multiprocess architecture. Geckodriver implements W3C WebDriver, and moving from older drivers that used the Selenium wire protocol can introduce migration differences. See Mozilla’s geckodriver usage guidance.
Does Selenium 3 support Firefox 3?
If “Firefox 3” means browser version 3, the answer is that it is not shown in Mozilla’s current geckodriver compatibility table. The published rows above cover substantially later Firefox releases; they do not establish a supported Selenium 3 and Firefox 3 pairing.
If you meant Selenium version 3 with a modern Firefox browser, use the geckodriver guidance above. The Selenium 3 announcement in 2016 said that Firefox 48 and later required geckodriver, regardless of whether Selenium 2 or 3 was in use. That is useful historical context for the transition, not a present-day compatibility matrix; see Selenium 3 is Coming.
How to check a Selenium 3 and Firefox setup
- Identify what “Firefox 3” means. Record whether you mean Selenium 3 or the Firefox 3 browser.
- Record exact versions. Note the Selenium binding and version, Firefox version (including whether it is ESR), and geckodriver release.
- Check the geckodriver row. Compare the Firefox version and binding requirements against Mozilla’s support table. Do not infer a maximum when the row only states a minimum.
- Account for migration changes. If replacing FirefoxDriver with geckodriver, check for behavior differences associated with the W3C WebDriver protocol change.
- Keep Selenium 4 guidance separate. Selenium’s Firefox documentation says Selenium 4 requires Firefox 78 or greater and recommends the latest geckodriver. That threshold is for Selenium 4; it is not a Selenium 3 rule.
Compatibility does not guarantee every feature
A supported version combination does not promise that every WebDriver feature behaves identically. Mozilla notes that geckodriver is not fully feature-complete and may not have complete Selenium compatibility. Treat the support table as a version-pairing guide, then verify the specific capabilities your tests rely on.

If your goal is simply to save a webpage as an image or PDF—not to run interactive Selenium tests—ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. For a basic screenshot, make one GET request; see the API documentation for options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and whether the request was billed. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
