Open Settings > Battery > View details to see recent battery usage by app on a Galaxy phone or tablet. If your device does not show Battery in that location, look under Battery and device care; Samsung’s menu names and layouts vary by model and software version.
Find battery usage by app in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery. Samsung’s U.S. instructions describe this route as: “Open Settings, then swipe to and tap Battery.”
- Tap View details to review app usage and screen-on and screen-off time.
On some Galaxy versions, the route is Settings > Battery and device care > Battery. Tap the battery graph or View details to see the breakdown by app and feature. If neither route matches, use the Settings search field and search for Battery.

Interpret the app list carefully
The usage screen is an estimate based on recent activity, not a universal efficiency rating or proof that an app is faulty. An app near the top is a useful lead: consider how long you used it, whether it was active in the background, and whether its use during the period shown was expected.

Battery drain also depends on conditions beyond the app list. Samsung identifies background apps, the environment, and battery condition among factors that can affect consumption in its guidance on faster battery drain.

In Device care’s Battery area, Samsung provides options to manage apps with high background usage, including putting apps to sleep or deep sleep. Before changing an app’s status, decide whether you rely on it to update or notify you when it is not open. Sleeping apps may have delayed updates or notifications, and background restrictions can affect how an app behaves. Check battery health if several apps are not the issue
If battery life seems poor even when no single app stands out, run the available battery check in Samsung Members > Support > Phone diagnostics.
