A Security+ practice-test score can show how you did on that particular set of questions; it cannot, by itself, tell you whether you will pass the real exam. The reviewed sources do not establish a validated conversion from a practice percentage to an individual’s chance of passing. Use practice results to find what to study next, not as a promise or a universal cutoff.
What a Security+ practice score actually measures
Your result reflects your performance on a particular provider’s questions, question set, and attempt, under the conditions in which you took it. It is a useful snapshot, but it is not automatically comparable with another provider’s percentage or with the real exam.

Question difficulty, coverage of exam objectives, repeated questions, familiarity from prior attempts, and testing conditions can all affect the result. The reviewed material does not describe a CompTIA model that adjusts practice scores for those differences or maps them to an individual pass probability.

A CompTIA Security+ SY0-701 instructor-guide excerpt hosted by TechCampus describes a timed final assessment as “a practice-test-like experience to help students determine their readiness for the CompTIA certification exam.” That wording presents the assessment as a readiness aid; it does not say that a particular score guarantees success. The available material does not verify a current official Security+ passing score suitable for comparison with practice-test percentages. Third-party snippets may be stale or conflict, so do not use an unverified threshold to judge your readiness.
Why no practice percentage is a reliable pass prediction
The reviewed sources do not establish a representative statistic showing how accurately Security+ practice scores predict passing. Candidate accounts describe different providers, scores, and outcomes, but individual reports cannot show that a given percentage is a dependable cutoff for other test takers. Candidate discussions are anecdotes, not predictive studies.

A high practice score can be encouraging, but it may reflect strong knowledge, familiarity with repeated questions, or coverage that differs from the actual exam. A lower score can reveal topics to revisit without proving that you will fail. Neither result should be treated as a forecast.
How to turn practice results into a study plan
- Review every missed or guessed question. Identify whether the issue was a knowledge gap, a misread, or uncertainty between answer choices.
- Connect each error to an exam objective. Group errors by topic so that your next study session addresses patterns rather than isolated questions.
- Study the weak areas, then try fresh questions. A new set helps check whether you understand the material rather than remember a previous answer.
- Compare topic-level results across resources. Different providers may use different scales, so look for recurring strengths and gaps instead of treating their percentages as interchangeable.
Improvement on fresh questions is a useful study signal, not proof of a future exam result.

How to choose practice that is useful
When comparing practice exams, consider whether they align with the current SY0-701 objectives, explain why answers are right or wrong, cover performance-based tasks, use fresh rather than repeated questions, and report weak areas clearly. These features can make practice more useful for learning; the available evidence does not show that one provider’s score predicts the real exam better than another’s.
