Apple released the second developer betas of iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2 on November 12, 2025—not iPadOS 26.1. The iPhone and iPad builds were both 23C5033g. This is a historical release, superseded by later software; most readers should install the current stable version rather than seek out this beta.
What Apple released
The November 12, 2025 update was the second developer beta for iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2, alongside beta 2 releases for watchOS 26.2, tvOS 26.2, visionOS 26.2, and macOS Tahoe 26.2. The first iOS and iPadOS 26.2 developer betas had arrived on November 4.

The matching build numbers do not mean iOS and iPadOS have identical features or bugs. Apple’s announcement for the 26.2 beta cycle identifies both operating systems as 26.2, correcting the “iPadOS 26.1” wording in the original headline. The contemporaneous release report lists build 23C5033g for both.

Apple’s documented AirDrop fix
Apple’s iOS and iPadOS 26.2 release notes document a specific AirDrop fix: devices set to “Everyone” on beta 1 were not discoverable by devices running beta 2. This addresses that cross-beta discoverability issue; it is not a claim that every AirDrop problem was fixed.

Beta features can change or be removed before a general release, and Apple’s developer release notes may not describe every visible interface adjustment.
Should you install this beta?
Developer betas are pre-release software. Apple describes them as a way for developers to test compatibility and prepare apps, not as the normal choice for a primary device. A beta can fix one issue while introducing another, including crashes, battery drain, performance problems, or incompatibility with apps and services.

It may make sense for
- Developers checking app compatibility or preparing software for an upcoming operating-system release.
- QA teams testing apps across device and operating-system combinations.
- Experienced beta testers using a secondary device to investigate a specific feature or bug.
Avoid it on devices you rely on
Do not use a pre-release build on a primary work phone or tablet, or on a device containing irreplaceable data or needed for banking, authentication, travel, medical access, or emergency communication. The same caution applies to devices central to enterprise management, VPN access, CarPlay, Bluetooth accessories, or production app demonstrations.
This beta is also no longer a useful target for a current installation: Apple’s release archive has moved on to later iOS and iPadOS versions, including 26.6 and 27 beta development. Developers should consult Apple’s current releases and SDKs; most users should stay on the latest stable public software offered for their device.

How to install a developer beta
For a supported iPhone or iPad on a modern iOS or iPadOS version, Apple’s normal over-the-air route is through Software Update. Before starting, make an iCloud or computer backup. Apple’s beta installation guidance says the device must be signed in with the Apple Account used on the Apple Developer website.

- Back up the iPhone or iPad to iCloud or a computer.
- Open Settings.
- Tap General, then Software Update.
- Tap Beta Updates and choose the available developer beta.
- Return to Software Update and install the update when it appears.
- Keep the device connected to power and Wi-Fi while it downloads and installs.
The beta option depends on the Apple Account and developer beta access associated with the device; do not assume the developer beta is simply an ordinary public update. Older configuration-profile instructions apply to devices on iOS or iPadOS 16.3 and earlier, not the standard path for modern systems. Developer Mode is a separate setting for development workflows such as running or locally installing apps; it is not universally required just to receive an over-the-air beta update.

Backups and recovery risks
A backup is a precaution, not a guarantee of an easy downgrade or a perfect restoration. If a beta device remains usable, you can wait for a later beta or stable update. If it becomes unstable, restoring it with a Mac or PC in recovery mode may be necessary. Returning to an older stable operating system may require erasing the device, and a backup created on a newer beta may not restore to an older OS version. Confirm that you have an appropriate older backup before installing beta software.
