Choose screen or print media
The PDF API’s media setting determines whether the page is rendered for screen or print. The default is documented as screen, for a PDF that looks like the webpage in a browser. For a PDF intended for printing, choose print; the documentation says this omits web-specific graphics and elements that are not needed for printing. This setting is distinct from choosing PDF rather than PNG: it affects the PDF rendering.

Choose PNG when pixel dimensions matter
Use the screenshot workflow when the result needs to be an image at a chosen viewport size, or when you need to capture how the page renders in a selected device layout. A full-page image is useful when the desired deliverable is one tall image rather than a paginated document.

Prepare the page before either capture
Both API guides document ways to wait for rendering and to interact with or hide page elements. Use a delay when content needs time to appear, and click or hide a particular element when it would otherwise obstruct the capture. The appropriate wait and selectors depend on the target page; the documentation does not establish one universal delay or selector set.
- Decide whether your deliverable is a paginated document or a pixel-sized image.
- For PDF, choose paper size and orientation, then set
media=printfor printing or retainmedia=screenfor browser-like styling. - For PNG, choose the viewport dimensions, device rendering, or full-page capture that suits the destination.
- Set any needed delay or page interaction, then capture and check the resulting file for the intended content.
