Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If Hindi, Tamil, or another Indian-language script is missing or malformed in a ScreenshotMachine capture, first find out where the browser actually runs. Installing fonts can fix a local browser or a browser inside your own container, but it cannot install fonts on ScreenshotMachine’s hosted renderer. The vendor documentation describes a hosted HTTP GET screenshot API; it does not document a local CLI, renderer details, or a way to upload fonts. Screenshot Machine’s API documentation therefore cannot confirm which Indic fonts its service currently has.
First determine whether your capture is local or hosted
The phrase “ScreenshotMachine CLI” does not identify a documented renderer or package version. Find the executable and version you are running, and check whether the command launches a browser on your machine or sends a request to api.screenshotmachine.com. Screenshot Machine’s official reference describes an HTTP GET API and client examples, but does not establish a local CLI’s behavior.
- Local browser or container: the relevant fonts must be available in the machine, container, or CI image where that browser runs. Fonts installed only on your laptop will not help a separate runner.
- Hosted API: the capture uses the vendor’s rendering environment. Installing a font on your own machine does not change that environment; ask Screenshot Machine support about its current font coverage if the issue persists.
Also verify that the page works in an ordinary browser with the same URL, account/session state, and relevant language settings. This separates a page or session problem from a difference in the capture environment.
Identify the script and the exact failure
“Indian-language text” can mean several scripts, and a font package for one does not necessarily cover another. Check a short sample of the affected text and identify its language and script before choosing a package.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Example language | Script | Fedora package example |
|---|---|---|
| Hindi | Devanagari | lohit-devanagari-fonts |
| Tamil | Tamil | lohit-tamil-fonts |
| Bengali | Bengali | lohit-bengali-fonts |
| Gujarati | Gujarati | lohit-gujarati-fonts |
| Kannada | Kannada | lohit-kannada-fonts |
| Malayalam | Malayalam | smc-meera-fonts |
| Telugu | Telugu | lohit-telugu-fonts |
These are examples from Fedora’s Indic language documentation, not universal package names. Check your distribution’s current repositories and defaults before using them. Fedora’s change record targeted Fedora Linux 39 for making Google Noto fonts the default for Indic scripts; that dated change does not establish defaults for every current Fedora release or other distributions. Debian’s documentation points to the fonts-indic package family and describes fontconfig search paths. See the Fedora Indic documentation, Fedora’s Indic Noto fonts change record, and Debian Fonts documentation.
Distinguish two visual symptoms:
- Missing glyphs: text appears as empty boxes, replacement symbols, or disappears. This points toward missing script coverage or a font that did not load.
- Broken shaping: characters are present but conjuncts, marks, or reordering look wrong. Font availability and text shaping are related, but not identical; switching packages may not resolve a shaping-engine or browser difference.
Fix a local browser, container, or CI capture
- Confirm the runtime. Install fonts in the exact OS image that starts the browser—not just the developer workstation. Identify the distribution and version, then find a currently available package for the affected script.
- Install script coverage. Use the distribution’s package manager and package documentation. Fedora’s examples above and Debian’s
fonts-indicfamily are starting points, not cross-distribution commands. - Refresh font discovery if needed. Some Linux setups use fontconfig paths and caches. Follow the operating system’s font instructions and refresh its font cache when required.
- Restart the browser process. A browser that was already running may not see fonts installed afterward.
- Capture a minimal test. Render a short sample in the target script, then compare it with the same page in a normal browser running in that same environment.
Do not treat old generic locale instructions as current browser installation steps. The Linux Documentation Project’s Indic Fonts HOWTO dates to 2002; it is historical context, not a reliable guide to modern package names or browser behavior.

For a hosted Screenshot Machine API capture
The documented API offers request controls that can help with language selection, session state, or timing. Its accept-language parameter is described as setting the Accept-Language header on the request to the page. Cookies can provide session state, and a capture delay can give late-loading page assets more time. These controls may help the page serve the intended content or finish loading, but they do not install fonts or guarantee Indic glyph shaping. The API reference does not list font selection, font upload, or a local renderer option.
- Check that the site’s text is Unicode and that the page renders properly in an ordinary browser using the same URL and session.
- Inspect the page’s CSS and web-font requests. Confirm that the intended font request succeeds rather than being blocked, missing, or unfinished when capture begins.
- Use
accept-languageonly if the site chooses localized content based on that header; use cookies when the page needs the same session or consent state. - Use a delay when the page’s own font or content loads late. Compare a capture after the necessary assets load rather than assuming a longer delay adds font coverage.
- If the hosted capture still differs from a working browser, give Screenshot Machine support the exact API request, affected script, a short reproducible text sample, and the result. Ask about the service’s current renderer font coverage rather than assuming an API-side font fix exists.
The vendor reference lists other capture parameters such as user-agent, dimensions, selectors, and crop. Those can affect the page request or captured area, but the documentation does not present them as font installation controls. See Screenshot Machine’s Website screenshot API reference.

Or skip the browser setup
For a screenshot API that documents its available controls, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try: it removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed; and its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. It includes 1,000 screenshots a month free with no card, while paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Those facts do not establish its Indic font coverage, so test your page if that is the deciding issue.
One GET request returns an image; this example saves the response as WebP:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request details. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does ScreenshotMachine CLI use my system fonts?
The title does not identify a specific CLI package or version, and the official API documentation does not specify a local CLI renderer. If the command launches a local browser, its runtime’s fonts matter; a hosted API capture uses the service’s environment.

Not by itself. It can influence which localized content the page serves, but it does not install fonts or guarantee correct glyph shaping.
