For full-page captures, ScreenshotMachine recommends trying a longer delay—for example, 2000 ms or more—but that setting is a pre-capture wait, not a documented HTTP timeout control. The API documentation does not state a server-side timeout threshold or a timeout-specific retry procedure.
What to check first when a large-page request times out
- Confirm that the GET request includes your ScreenshotMachine
keyand a valid, percent-encoded targeturl. - Check whether the request asks for a full-page image. Compare it with a viewport-sized capture to see whether the problem is limited to full-page capture; this is a diagnostic test, not a vendor-prescribed fix.
- Verify the requested width and height are within the documented limits, or use
fullfor height. - For a full-page capture, try an allowed longer
delayvalue and check the returned image and response header. - If it still fails, record the request parameters, target URL, HTTP status and any
X-Screenshotmachine-Responsevalue before contacting ScreenshotMachine.
Verify the API request and page dimensions
ScreenshotMachine’s API uses HTTP GET and requires a customer key and target url. Its documentation recommends percent-encoding the URL. Confirm the destination is valid and accessible; the documented invalid_url error can also apply when the target requires authorization and returns HTTP 401. See the ScreenshotMachine API documentation.
The documented width range is 100–1920 pixels. Height can be 100–9999 pixels, or full for a full-length page; the vendor gives 1024xfull as an example. A full-page capture may be very long. Try a viewport-sized height first: if that succeeds while full does not, the comparison helps isolate the full-page request as a factor.
Use delay as a capture-wait setting, not a timeout fix
The delay parameter controls how long ScreenshotMachine’s capture engine waits before creating the screenshot. The documented default is 200 ms. Allowed values are 0, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, and 2000–10000 ms in 1000 ms steps after 2000. For full-length captures, ScreenshotMachine advises considering a longer delay—2000 ms or more, for example—because long pages can contain more images or animations. This is guidance, not a guarantee that a timeout will be resolved.
Increase the delay only as needed. The documentation does not describe it as a network or HTTP timeout setting, and it does not say that a longer delay overrides a request timeout. Do not treat a delay value as evidence of the API’s maximum processing time.
Read the returned image and error header
For invalid or incomplete calls, ScreenshotMachine documents an error image and an X-Screenshotmachine-Response header containing an error code. Inspect both before deciding that the result is a timeout. The documented codes include:

The API documentation does not list a dedicated timeout code. A failed request without a documented error code should not be assigned a guessed cause or vendor timeout limit.
If the request still times out
The official API information cited here does not specify ScreenshotMachine’s server-side timeout threshold, a required client timeout value, or a timeout-specific retry and backoff policy. Avoid presenting an arbitrary duration or retry schedule as a ScreenshotMachine rule. Preserve the request details and response diagnostics, then contact the vendor through its contact page, which lists [email protected]. Check the contact page for current details.
