To keep ads and consent banners out of a ScreenshotAPI capture, set block_ads=true and no_cookie_banners=true. To suppress known tracking and analytics requests as well, add block_tracking=true. These are separate controls, and each defaults to false; blocking every script is usually a much broader change than needed.
Which ScreenshotAPI options remove ads, trackers, and overlays?
ScreenshotAPI documents separate parameters for different page resources and overlays. Enable only the controls that fit the screenshot you need:

The documentation also lists controls for stylesheets, images, media, fonts, text tracks, Fetch API requests, and EventSource connections. Their documented defaults are false. Blocking these resource classes can remove styling, images, media, live data, or dynamic content, so use them only when those resources are irrelevant to the capture. ScreenshotAPI documentation
Choose settings based on what the screenshot must represent
For a clean page without ad and consent clutter
Start with block_ads=true and no_cookie_banners=true. The first targets common ad-network requests; the second targets consent overlays. Neither is a universal page-cleaning switch, and a site-specific overlay may remain.

Add block_tracking=true if privacy-oriented rendering or reduced tracking-driven variation is part of the requirement. This can change page behavior, so do not enable it automatically when your goal is to reproduce a typical user session.
When one known request causes the problem
Prefer block_specific_requests over disabling all JavaScript or broad classes of resources. Targeting one endpoint, script URL, or ad domain can preserve unrelated page functionality. Check the live documentation for the exact request-pattern syntax you plan to use.

When the screenshot must match the user environment
Leave blocking options off when ads, tracking-dependent behavior, chat, or consent UI are part of what you need to document. Any blocking changes the page environment; a cleaned capture should not be presented as a faithful record of what every visitor saw.
How to configure and verify a capture
- Decide whether the goal is a cleaner analytical image or a faithful user-environment capture.
- For ad and consent cleanup, add
block_ads=trueandno_cookie_banners=trueto the ScreenshotAPI request using its documented parameter format. Addblock_tracking=trueonly if tracker suppression is also wanted. - If a specific request is the source of the clutter, try a targeted
block_specific_requestspattern instead of disabling JavaScript or whole resource classes. - Inspect the resulting screenshot for missing content, broken layout, blank regions, or dynamic sections that no longer load. If something needed disappeared, remove the broadest blocking option first and try a narrower one.
- For repeatable comparisons, use the same settings across captures and record which blocking controls were enabled; otherwise changes in the capture environment can be mistaken for changes on the page.
ScreenshotAPI’s documentation describes these parameters and their intended behavior, but the result depends on the site’s implementation and the requests it makes. The vendor’s feature pages claim more than 20,000 ad-blocking rules; that is a ScreenshotAPI company claim, not an independently verified count, and the pages do not state a publication year. Common problems and fixes
The ad or banner is still visible
Confirm the relevant option is enabled: ads use block_ads, while consent overlays use no_cookie_banners. ScreenshotAPI says its banner handling covers most banners, not all implementations. If a site uses a custom overlay or a particular script, identify its request and consider targeted blocking rather than assuming either option catches everything.
Page content disappears or the render looks broken
Undo broad controls first. Disabling JavaScript can hide or break content; blocking images, stylesheets, media, Fetch, or EventSource can remove assets or updates that the page needs. Restore the affected resource class and narrow the block to the specific request if possible.
Page behavior differs from what a visitor sees
That is an expected consequence of blocking. Turn off the relevant control if the capture is meant to represent the ordinary user environment, or label the screenshot as a filtered capture if it is intended for analysis.
