Screenshot.Rocks is useful for making a framed mockup of the first screen of a public website, but the available evidence does not establish how often its captures succeed across the web. Its own documentation identifies specific limits: server captures cannot see pages behind a login or at local addresses, and may fail when a site blocks automated browsers or takes too long to load. That is a useful boundary, not proof that the service is generally unreliable.
What Screenshot.Rocks captures
The online website screenshot tool captures the first screen of a public page—the area visible before scrolling—and places the result in a browser frame. It is not a full-page archiver. Screenshot.Rocks describes the service as free and says an account is not required.

The vendor documents these output dimensions: desktop: a 1440 × 800 viewport at 2× density, producing 2880 × 1600 pixels; mobile: a 375 × 812 viewport at 3× density, producing 1125 × 2436 pixels. These are published dimensions, not evidence of capture accuracy or reliability. Screenshot.Rocks does not show a publication date for the page; the figures were checked in 2026.
The browser extension has a different job
The extension captures the visible part of the current tab at the display’s full resolution and opens the image in the editor. It does not capture the whole page. The extension page says Chrome and Edge request only the activeTab permission. Search results also describe Firefox availability, but the extension page was not available to confirm that claim, so check the relevant store for current availability.

How reliable are the online captures?
Screenshot.Rocks says its online renderer loads a page on a server as a first-time visitor. Its documentation names a mistyped address, a slow-loading page, and a site blocking automated browsers as common reasons a capture can fail. Because the renderer visits as a first-time visitor, it also cannot access logged-in content or local addresses such as localhost.
Those documented failure conditions matter most for dashboards, local or staging sites, pages that require a particular interaction, and websites that restrict automated browsing. For those cases, Screenshot.Rocks recommends capturing in the user’s own browser and importing the image, or using its extension for the visible tab.

There is no substantiated success-rate figure. No independent benchmark comparing capture success across websites, browsers, or dynamic-page conditions was identified. This is a documentation-based assessment, not a hands-on test. A store rating or user count would not answer the reliability question: those figures are not capture-success measurements.

No. The online tool captures the first screen, and the extension captures only the currently visible part of the browser tab. Neither is documented as a full-page capture feature.

For a complete scrolling page, Screenshot.Rocks’ guide points to browser-native capture features: developer tools in Chrome and Safari, and screenshot menus in Firefox and Edge. Browser capture can preserve a page state visible in that browser, including a logged-in or local page, but it has its own pitfalls:
- Lazy-loaded images may be absent unless you scroll through the page first.
- Banners and sticky headers can obscure content.
- Device resolution affects the sharpness of the resulting image.
- Very tall pages can exceed browser image-height limits.
What does the privacy information establish?
Screenshot.Rocks’ homepage says images are processed in the browser and never stored on its servers. Its privacy policy likewise says uploaded images are not stored and image manipulation takes place client-side. These are the site’s own disclosures, not the findings of an independent audit.

The privacy policy also discloses use of Google Analytics and cookies, and says logs may include IP addresses, browser type, ISP, timestamps, referring and exit pages, and possibly click counts. The extension page says a screenshot is sent to Screenshot.Rocks when the user clicks to open it in the editor and is not stored. Transmission and storage are different questions: the extension statement describes both sending the image and the vendor’s stated handling after transmission.

| Need | Better-fit workflow | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| A framed mockup of a public page’s first screen | Screenshot.Rocks online tool | Server-rendered first-visit view; not a full-page capture or logged-in view. |
| The visible state of a page already open in your browser | Screenshot.Rocks extension or the browser’s own screenshot feature | The extension captures only the visible tab area. |
| A full scrolling page | Browser-native full-page capture, where supported | Lazy loading, overlays, resolution, and image-height limits can affect the result. |
| A logged-in, local, staging, or interaction-specific state | Capture that state in your own browser and import the image | A server visit as a first-time visitor cannot reproduce that browser state. |
If reliability is a deciding factor, compare tools on the same representative pages and conditions: first-screen versus full-page output, logged-in or local browser state, sites that restrict automation, image dimensions, data transmission and storage, and support for a chosen interaction state. Without a same-page comparison, there is no sound basis for declaring a general winner.

ScreenshotNeo as an alternative to try first
For developer workflows that need a server-side screenshot API, ScreenshotNeo is the alternative to try first: it removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, and only clean shots are billed. Its response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers, so bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. It also offers an MCP server for AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client.
One GET request can return an image or PDF. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP capture; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and options:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo’s free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo to try the free monthly allowance without a card.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Screenshot.Rocks access a page that requires a login?
No. Its online renderer visits as a first-time visitor, so it cannot see content behind a login.
Is a Chrome Web Store rating a measure of capture reliability?
No. Ratings and user counts describe store listing feedback and adoption, not the proportion of capture attempts that succeed.
