Set up Playwright and its browser
In an existing Node.js project, install Playwright and the browser binary for the browser you plan to use. Playwright releases are paired with specific browser binaries, so rerun the browser installation after upgrading Playwright if needed. The example uses Manorama Online as an illustrative target, not a site that has been tested for automation. Its current page content and behavior may change. Mathrubhumi is another example Malayalam news publisher; check the live site and choose the URL you actually need.

})();The viewport dimensions and target URL are example choices, not tested recommendations. waitUntil: 'load' waits for the page load event; it does not mean that every ad, live module, or later lazy-loaded item has settled. Waiting for document.fonts.ready is a practical step for web fonts, but inspect the saved PNG to confirm that Malayalam letters and shaping look right.

Choose viewport, full-page, or a focused capture
- Viewport: omit
fullPage(or set it tofalse) to capture the currently visible area, such as a headline and site header. - Full page: use
fullPage: trueto capture the page’s full scrollable area instead of only the visible viewport. See the Page screenshot API. A long page can produce a large image, and content that loads only after scrolling may need additional handling. - One element: use a locator screenshot when the article body or another specific component is the subject:

clipoption for a specific rectangle when you know its coordinates:await page.screenshot({ path: 'region.png', clip: { x: 0, y: 0, width: 800, height: 600 } });.
Playwright also supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP output, CSS-pixel or device-pixel scale, masking, and screenshot stylesheets. See the screenshot options for exact option details. CSS scale favors CSS-pixel dimensions; device scale captures more pixels, which can increase file size.
Make captures more useful and repeatable
Check Malayalam font rendering
Open the image and look for absent glyphs, broken conjuncts, or a late font swap. If text is missing, first verify that it appears correctly in the browser page itself and that the intended fonts have loaded before capture. This workflow does not establish a site-specific font stack or guarantee rendering across all machines.

Control moving content
News pages may change during capture because of ads, live modules, or lazy-loaded content. For a repeatable comparison, capture a stable article region or use a screenshot stylesheet to suppress known volatile elements. Playwright documents screenshot stylesheets as a way to make visual comparisons more deterministic: visual comparisons and screenshot baselines.
Keep the rendering environment consistent
Browser and operating-system differences, including fonts, can change screenshot output. For visual regression work, keep the Playwright version, browser, operating system, viewport, and font environment consistent; compare against a baseline made in that same setup. Playwright discusses these rendering differences in its visual comparison guidance.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- Playwright says the browser executable is missing: install the browser binary for the installed Playwright release with
npx playwright install chromium. If Playwright was upgraded, install its matching browser again. - The output is blank or navigation fails: confirm the target URL opens in a regular browser and inspect the navigation error. A page load event alone does not guarantee that all site content is available; the site may still be loading modules or may not have completed successfully.
- Malayalam letters are missing or look wrong: inspect the page before capture, wait for
document.fonts.ready, and inspect the saved image. If the glyphs are absent in the browser too, screenshot options will not repair the page’s font or content. - The full-page image omits later content: some pages load content on scroll. A full-page option captures the scrollable page, but it does not itself prove that every lazy-loaded module has loaded. Use the site’s actual content state or a focused capture, and verify the result.
- Repeated captures differ: fix the browser and operating-system environment and reduce changing content with a stable region or screenshot stylesheet. Ads and live modules can vary independently of your code.
