What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Use chromedp.Screenshot for a form element, chromedp.CaptureScreenshot for the visible browser area, or chromedp.FullScreenshot for a page extending below the viewport. Wait for the actual form content to render, save the returned bytes, and inspect the image in the same browser environment used for production—especially for missing Devanagari glyphs, clipped labels, and unexpected line breaks.
Choose the screenshot scope
| Action | What it captures | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
chromedp.Screenshot(selector, &buf, ...) |
The first element matching the selector, clipped to its element area. | A specific form, field group, or panel. |
chromedp.CaptureScreenshot(&buf) |
The current viewport. | The portion visible in the browser window. |
chromedp.FullScreenshot(&buf, quality) |
The page beyond the viewport. | A long form or full-page record. |
The element helper captures its first selector match. If a page has multiple forms or repeated elements, make the selector specific enough to identify the intended one. The Chrome DevTools Protocol screenshot method supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP; PNG is the default. See the chromedp API and CDP Page.captureScreenshot documentation.

Capture and save a full-page form in Go
This example navigates to a form, waits for a form element to be visible, captures the full page as PNG, and writes the bytes to disk. Replace the URL and readiness selector with values appropriate to the government site.
package main
import (
"context"
"log"
"github.com/chromedp/chromedp"
)
func main() {
if err := capture("https://example.gov.in/form"); err != nil {
log.Fatal(err)
}
}
func capture(formURL string) error {
ctx, cancel := chromedp.NewContext(context.Background())
defer cancel()
var buf []byte
err := chromedp.Run(ctx,
chromedp.Navigate(formURL),
chromedp.WaitVisible("form", chromedp.ByQuery),
chromedp.FullScreenshot(&buf, 100),
)
if err != nil {
return err
}
return os.WriteFile("form.png", buf, 0o644)
}
Add "os" to the import block for os.WriteFile. The full import block is therefore context, log, os, and github.com/chromedp/chromedp. The example illustrates the API pattern; adapt the selector and readiness check to the target site.

Use the correct action for an element or viewport
For just a form element, replace chromedp.FullScreenshot(&buf, 100) with chromedp.Screenshot("form", &buf, chromedp.ByQuery). For the visible viewport, use chromedp.CaptureScreenshot(&buf). Keep a specific selector when a page contains more than one matching form.
Keep the output extension consistent with the format
In chromedp’s FullScreenshot helper, quality 100 selects PNG; any other quality selects JPEG. Save quality-100 output with a .png extension. If using a non-100 quality, choose a .jpg or .jpeg filename rather than calling the output PNG. CDP also documents WebP as a screenshot format, but the helper’s quality behavior should not be confused with a general format selector.

Wait for the form—not just navigation
A completed navigation does not guarantee that a form rendered by scripts, delayed network requests, an embedded frame, or web fonts is ready to capture. Wait for a selector that represents the actual content or another site-specific completion condition. A generic form selector may be too early if the page inserts the fields later; use a stable selector for the relevant form or a required field. Avoid treating an arbitrary sleep as proof that content has loaded.
For a form inside an iframe, identify and wait for the frame’s content using a condition appropriate to the page before taking the screenshot. The basic selector example assumes the target form is available to the page context in the ordinary way; pages with embedded or dynamically assembled forms may need a more specific readiness strategy.

Verify Hindi text in the capture environment
Open the resulting image and check that expected Devanagari characters appear, labels are not clipped, and line wrapping has not changed the layout unexpectedly. Repeat this check in the same browser and container environment as production: font availability and page rendering depend on that environment and the site. There is no single font installation or CSS change established as a universal fix for Hindi rendering on every government website.
A screenshot is a visual artifact, not an accessibility audit. India’s GIGW resources provide separate guidance for government websites, including form labels and structure, reading order, PDF language metadata, and assistive technology. Consult the GIGW website and its accessibility guidance when reviewing the usability and accessibility of the underlying form.

Account for full-page capture side effects
chromedp.FullScreenshot captures beyond the viewport and overrides device emulation settings. If your workflow relies on a configured device profile or viewport, restore those emulation settings after the full-page capture before continuing with other browser actions. The full-page behavior and emulation caveat are documented in the chromedp package documentation.

- The screenshot is blank or missing the form: navigation may have ended before scripts or delayed content rendered. Wait for a form-specific selector or site-specific ready condition, then capture.
- The wrong form is captured: the selector may match an earlier or unrelated element. Narrow it to a unique form or field-group selector; the element helper uses the first match.
- Hindi characters are missing or replaced: inspect the same browser/container used by the capture job and verify the page’s rendering there. The available documentation does not establish one universal font fix.
- Labels are cut off or line breaks differ: check the actual output at the configured viewport and page scale, and confirm the content and fonts finished rendering before capture.
- The file does not open as the expected image type: align the extension with the bytes produced. For
FullScreenshot, quality 100 yields PNG and a different quality yields JPEG. - Subsequent captures use the wrong device profile: restore the emulation settings after
FullScreenshotif later captures depend on them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does chromedp.FullScreenshot save a PNG when quality is below 100?
No. The helper selects JPEG for any quality below 100; use an image extension that matches the returned bytes.
Does seeing Hindi text in a screenshot confirm that a government form is accessible?
No. A bitmap only shows the rendered appearance; accessibility requires a separate review of the form and its underlying structure.
