The real cost depends on each provider’s definition of a billable render, how it treats failures and cached results, whether advanced options multiply usage, and how quickly you need requests to run. The prices below are provider-published USD monthly plan snapshots dated October 5, 2026—not independently verified invoices or an apples-to-apples quality comparison. Taxes, annual billing, included features, overages, and metering rules differ; check each provider’s current terms before choosing.
What a screenshot API charges you for
A hosted screenshot API takes a URL or supplied content, renders it in the provider’s infrastructure, and returns an image or another supported output. That saves you from operating browser-rendering infrastructure yourself, but the subscription price is only one part of the cost.

For example, ScreenshotOne’s screenshot API accepts a URL, HTML, or Markdown and can return screenshots and other outputs; its getting-started documentation shows GET and POST requests and binary image responses. Urlbox’s screenshot API supports URL or HTML capture and describes image, video, PDF, and structured-data outputs, with synchronous and asynchronous request patterns documented.

Before comparing a plan’s headline quota, find out what the provider counts as one unit. “Screenshot,” “render,” and “credit” are not interchangeable billing terms: a successful fresh capture, a cache hit, a failed request, and a render using expensive options may all be treated differently.

Published monthly prices and quotas
The following are vendor-published USD monthly prices and quotas captured on October 5, 2026. They are not market averages, normalized quality comparisons, or verified invoices. Exclusions and plan rules vary.
| Provider | Published plans | Published overage or additional usage | Other price notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotOne | Basic: $17/month for 2,000 screenshots; Growth: $79/month for 10,000; Scale: $259/month for 50,000 | Basic: $0.009 per extra screenshot; Growth: $0.006; Scale: $0.004 | Advertises 100 screenshots free each month; prices exclude VAT. ScreenshotOne pricing |
| Urlbox | Lo-Fi: $19/month for up to 2,000 renders; Hi-Fi: $49/month for up to 5,000; Ultra: $99/month for up to 15,000 | Business: $498/month with an initial 1,000+ renders, then $3 per 1,000 renders | Enterprise from $3,000/month; prices exclude VAT. Named plan descriptions are not quality-adjusted comparisons. Urlbox pricing |
| URL2PNG | Bootstrapped: $29/month for 5,000 fresh screenshots; Traction: $99/month for 20,000; Killinit: $199/month for 50,000 | Bootstrapped: $0.006 per extra screenshot; Traction: $0.005; Killinit: $0.004 | Published plan snapshot. URL2PNG pricing |
There is no meaningful universal “cheapest” choice in this table. The quota labels differ, and the amount of work consumed by a request can depend on cache state, output size, duration, and rendering options.
Rank #2
Which requests count against quota?
Failures and successful but incorrect-looking captures
ScreenshotOne says HTTP, browser, and network errors do not consume quota. A request that successfully produces an image still counts even if the page looks wrong—for example, because content failed to load in a way that did not trigger a technical error. Urlbox says failed requests do not count and defines a successful render as one that returns an image. URL2PNG describes each newly generated screenshot as one render. Check the provider’s definition rather than assuming that a bad-looking output is a billable failure.
Cached responses versus fresh renders
ScreenshotOne says responses served from cache do not consume credits; a cache miss or expired entry can trigger a fresh, billable render. Urlbox says Render Links are cached for 30 days by default and cached requests do not count, while first-time renders and REST API requests do count. URL2PNG says cached screenshots are kept for 30 days and reads from cache do not count. These policies make repeat requests potentially cheaper, but only if the request uses the relevant cache path and the stored result remains available.
Features that increase usage
Urlbox’s published pricing rules say a render is consumed for each 30-second period a request takes and for each 5 MB of file size. Certified Archive consumes an additional render per year of storage, GPU acceleration uses twice the renders of non-GPU requests, and advanced features may use more. A complex capture can therefore use more than one unit even when it produces a single image.
Request limits can matter as much as monthly quota
A plan can include enough monthly units for a workload yet still throttle a batch that starts requests too quickly. The providers publish different per-minute request-start limits:
Rank #4
| Provider and public tier | Published request rate | Source |
|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotOne Basic | 40 request starts per minute | ScreenshotOne pricing |
| ScreenshotOne Growth | 80 request starts per minute | ScreenshotOne pricing |
| ScreenshotOne Scale | 150 request starts per minute | ScreenshotOne pricing |
| Urlbox Lo-Fi | 30 requests per minute | Urlbox pricing |
| Urlbox Hi-Fi | 60 requests per minute | Urlbox pricing |
| Urlbox Ultra | 250 requests per minute | Urlbox pricing |
For a bursty job, also check concurrency, timeout behavior, and whether asynchronous requests or webhooks fit your workflow. A monthly allowance alone does not establish that a provider can complete your batch on the schedule you need.

Best Value
- ScreenshotOne: overages are disabled by default, and a monthly hard limit can be set. It says it sends usage alerts at 90% and 100%.
- Urlbox: it says it emails alerts at 80%, 90%, and 100%; its pricing page also says it can automatically upgrade a customer to the next tier when quota is exceeded.
These are provider-published policies, not a guarantee that every account or current plan has identical settings. Review the live plan terms and your account controls before relying on a cap, alert, or automatic-upgrade behavior.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to estimate your effective cost
- Describe a representative month. Count the fresh captures you need, expected repeat requests, failed requests, and the number of successful outputs your application actually uses.
- Separate cache hits from cache misses. Identify whether requests use a provider’s cached render-link path or a REST endpoint, how long results remain cached, and how your application forces a refresh.
- Account for render multipliers. Include request duration, file size, GPU use, archive retention, and any advanced feature that the provider says consumes additional units.
- Check throughput against your busiest interval. Compare request-start limits and any concurrency or timeout constraints with your largest batch, not just your monthly average.
- Model spend controls. Verify how overages work, whether there is a hard cap, which usage alerts are available, and whether quota exhaustion can trigger an upgrade.
- Test the pages and options your product depends on. Compare output quality and edge-case behavior using the same representative pages and settings. Vendor feature claims are not independent test results.
Use the resulting request mix to estimate cost per useful output, not just subscription price divided by headline quota. For instance, a workflow dominated by cache hits may consume fewer fresh renders than one that captures changing pages, while a long, large, feature-heavy request can use multiple units under Urlbox’s published rules.
What the published plan figures do—and do not—establish
The plan figures are provider-published snapshots dated October 5, 2026, not independent measurements of reliability, rendering quality, or market-wide spending. The reviewed official pricing material did not establish an independent market average for screenshot API costs. Evaluate features against your own requirements and confirm current prices, quotas, metering, and rate limits directly with each vendor before committing.
