Pay-as-you-go is usually a better fit for irregular screenshot workloads; a monthly plan can cost less and be easier to budget when your volume is steady. But those labels do not tell you what a provider counts, whether unused credits expire, or what happens when you exceed a quota. Compare the billable unit and the rules around it—not just the advertised price per screenshot.
Prices below are vendor-published figures checked on October 3, 2026. They are snapshots, not guarantees, and the services do not necessarily define captures or included features the same way. Confirm current terms and the checkout total before buying.

Pay-as-you-go versus monthly plans: what changes?
Pay-as-you-go typically means buying a credit pack without a recurring subscription. Monthly plans charge on a recurring billing cycle for an allowance; depending on the provider, extra use may trigger overage charges, require a top-up pack, or stop at a limit. Some providers offer both models.

Check the credit’s billable event, expiry, and whether unsuccessful requests consume it.
- Monthly plan: useful when a regular allowance, predictable recurring bill, or plan-specific capabilities suit your workload. Check the reset date, included quota, overage rate or hard cap, and any rate limits.
- Hybrid billing: can combine a monthly allowance with overage or credit packs. Verify which billing path applies when the allowance runs out and whether you can control or cap spending.
There is no universal break-even volume. A plan that looks inexpensive per included capture can be a poor fit if you use only a fraction of its allowance, while a pack can become costly if you regularly need large volumes.

How much does a screenshot API cost?
These examples are published vendor prices checked October 3, 2026, not a market average. Rates, quotas, and terms can change; verify the provider’s current pricing and checkout details. The services may count different events as a screenshot, so the displayed amounts are not automatically comparable.
| Provider and billing example | Published price and allowance | Billing details to note |
|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | Free: 1,000 shots/month with no card. Starter: $5 for 3,000; Growth: $15 for 15,000; Pro: $39 for 60,000; Scale: $99 for 250,000; Business: $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free. | All features are on every plan. Its billing policy says bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing; responses include X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. |
| ScreenshotAPI.to | Free: 200 screenshots/month. Monthly: 2,000 for $9; 10,000 for $29; 50,000 for $99; 100,000 for $149. | Monthly allowances reset each billing period. The vendor says one credit equals one screenshot and purchased credit packs do not expire; paid plans can use overage or packs after quota use. |
| ScreenshotDEV | Pay-as-you-go: $7 per 1,000 API calls, with no monthly commitment. | The vendor says credits never expire, failed calls are not charged, and successful 2xx calls count. It also describes plan overage and separate credit packs. |
| ScreenshotAPI.to credit packs | $9 for 1,000 credits; $29 for 5,000; $99 for 25,000; $299 for 100,000. | The vendor says packs do not expire. Confirm which credit-consuming event applies and how packs interact with any subscription quota. |
| ScreenshotCore | Starter: $8/month for 5,000 screenshots; Pro: $25/month for a shared 20,000 screenshot/video pool; Max: $65/month for a shared 60,000 pool. | Published overage rates are $0.005, $0.0035, and $0.0025 per capture, respectively. Starter screenshot and video allowances are separate; Pro and Max share a pool. |
| ScreenshotCenter | Free: 500 captures/month; Starter: $15/month for 2,000 screenshots; Plus: $35/month for 5,000; Business: $70/month for 10,000; Enterprise: $250/month for 50,000. | PDFs count as one screenshot; videos count as one screenshot per five seconds. Outputs, geography, support, team management, and SSO vary by tier. Annual billing is offered with two months free. |
| ScreenshotAPIs.org | Free: 100 renders/month without a card. Monthly plans start at $19/month for 2,000 renders. One-time packs include 500 for $9 and 2,000 for $29. | The vendor says one credit equals one render and one-time credits do not expire. Webhooks were not available on the reviewed deployment. |
| ScreenshotAPI.com | The page advertises pay-as-you-go without subscriptions and credit bundles. Its page also showed promotional free and per-shot wording alongside higher-volume packs. | The vendor FAQ says quota counts a successful image. The displayed promotional wording and bundle details need to be reconciled against the current live terms before relying on exact rates. The FAQ lists PNG, JPG, and GIF support. |
ScreenshotNeo is listed first because its clean-shot processing removes consent banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, failed or cached shots are not billed, and its paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
How to compare the real cost
- Estimate billable volume. Count successful renders in a typical month and a peak month; do not assume every API request equals one billed screenshot.
- Identify the billing unit. It may be a screenshot, render, API call, video duration, PDF, or credit-consuming event. Check whether formats and jobs share a pool.
- Calculate your expected bill. For a plan, use the subscription fee plus likely overage or top-ups. For a pack, multiply expected billable units by the pack’s effective unit cost. Compare at your expected usage, not by dividing the subscription fee by its full allowance unless you expect to use it.
- Check expiry and resets. Monthly allowances may reset while purchased credits remain; confirm both rules for the specific provider and plan.
- Include operational constraints. Compare rate limits, available formats, geography, failure and cache billing, retry behavior, and what happens at quota exhaustion. Add taxes and currency conversion where applicable.
- Keep peak usage and spend controls in view. A low nominal unit cost is not useful if a rate limit blocks the workload or overage can exceed your budget.
A useful provider-specific model is: expected billable units × pay-as-you-go unit cost versus plan fee + expected overage or top-ups. Use that provider’s current terms for every input; do not combine one vendor’s pack price with another vendor’s quota or failure policy.

What to verify before choosing
Do credits expire?
Expiry is provider-specific, not an inherent feature of pay-as-you-go. The reviewed ScreenshotAPI.to, ScreenshotDEV, and ScreenshotAPIs.org pages say their purchased credits do not expire. Check the current terms for the exact pack, and do not assume the rule applies to every provider or to a monthly allowance.
What counts as a screenshot in my monthly quota?
Ask whether the quota measures API calls, successful captures, output files, or another unit. ScreenshotDEV says failed calls are not charged and successful 2xx calls count; ScreenshotAPI.com’s FAQ says a screenshot counts when a successful image has been taken. ScreenshotCenter says PDFs count as one screenshot and videos as one screenshot per five seconds. Those are provider-specific policies, not shared definitions.

What happens when I exceed my plan limit?
Do not infer the answer from the word “monthly.” ScreenshotAPI.to describes overage or credit packs after subscription quota use; ScreenshotDEV describes extra calls billed at the plan overage rate and separately sells packs. Confirm whether your chosen plan charges automatically, requires a top-up, applies a hard cap, or behaves differently—and look for alerts or spending controls.
Can I change my plan later?
Plan-change timing and proration are separate from the billing model. ScreenshotAPI.com says users can upgrade or downgrade at any time, but that statement does not establish the rules for other providers or the effective date and cost of a change. Check the selected service’s current account and billing terms.
