Switchboard Live Free Trial: What Can You Test on YouTube?

You can use Switchboard Live’s trial to test a YouTube multistream, connect destinations, invite partners, and try a workflow with more than one encoder. Switchboard’s trial-specific support article describes 99 broadcast minutes for the Indie and Pro plans; the countdown starts when broadcasting begins, not while you set up. The article does not state a calendar expiration date or all eligibility terms, so check the signup flow for those details.

What the Switchboard Live trial lets you test

  • A YouTube multistream: YouTube is a native destination, and Switchboard says the trial can be used to go live to as many destinations as you want. That lets you check how a YouTube output works alongside other connected destinations.
  • Destination connections: Native destinations are connected with platform credentials. For a service that is not in the native list, Switchboard supports custom RTMP destinations using that provider’s server URL and stream key. Switchboard says destinations are unlimited.
  • Partner Invite: You can invite partners to send a stream to their own social destinations without sharing account passwords. Partners authorize their accounts through an invite link.
  • More than one encoder: The trial article says you can run simultaneous streams using more than one encoder, which is useful for checking an existing multi-encoder workflow.
  • The incoming encoder feed: Use the confidence monitor to check that Switchboard is receiving video before starting the YouTube destination. The test feed does not itself publish a live stream to YouTube.
  • Output without a Switchboard logo: Switchboard’s FAQ says its logo does not appear on live-stream videos, including during the trial.

What you need before testing YouTube

Prepare an active Switchboard account, the credentials for the YouTube channel you want to connect, and streaming software or an encoder. Switchboard’s setup guide gives OBS, Zoom, vMix, LiveU, Ecamm, and Blackmagic as examples; it does not make a particular camera, microphone, capture card, or dedicated encoder a requirement.

Enable live streaming on the YouTube channel before connecting it in Switchboard. Switchboard says activation can take up to 24 hours. YouTube also requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days; its stated minimum age for live streaming is 16. Check YouTube’s current eligibility rules for the channel before scheduling a test.

How to run a YouTube trial test

  1. Confirm YouTube eligibility. Verify the channel and enable live streaming in YouTube first. Allow up to 24 hours for activation if it has not been enabled before.
  2. Sign in to Switchboard and create a stream group. Use the group to organize the destinations for this broadcast.
  3. Add YouTube as a destination. Authorize the channel with its YouTube credentials. For a non-native destination, use its custom RTMP server URL and stream key instead.
  4. Connect your encoder. Configure the encoder to send its feed to Switchboard as directed in the setup guide.
  5. Check the confidence monitor. Wait until the feed appears and the status changes to “receiving.” This confirms the encoder-to-Switchboard connection; it does not start the YouTube broadcast.
  6. Start the YouTube destination when ready. Begin the broadcast only after the monitor check. The trial’s 99-minute allowance is broadcast time, and its clock starts when the broadcast begins.

What the trial does not establish

Switchboard describes its service as a multistreaming platform, not an editing studio; its FAQ says studio-like features are not available. The trial-specific support article identifies 99 broadcast minutes for Indie and Pro, but does not establish a calendar-based trial period, geography-specific terms, or every eligibility condition. Confirm any details that affect your account in the signup flow. An older Switchboard blog mentions a seven-day trial, but that conflicts with the trial-specific support information and should not be treated as the current term.
