To compare screenshot API costs, divide the plan’s recurring monthly price by its included capture quota—but treat that figure as a starting rate, not the cost of every page in your workload. Providers may count successful uncached renders rather than requests, charge extra credits for demanding captures, or bundle different capabilities. Compare the same capture specification, then estimate the bill using each provider’s quota, overage, failure, caching, and throughput rules.
What “cost per screenshot” actually measures
The simplest rate is monthly price divided by monthly included quota. It tells you the price per included unit if you use the whole allowance. It does not, by itself, tell you what a page capture costs: an API request may fail without consuming quota, a cache hit may be free, or a complex render may use multiple credits.

Keep three figures distinct:
- Included-quota rate: monthly plan price divided by the stated quota. This is useful for a first-pass comparison.
- Marginal overage rate: what additional usage costs after the quota, if overages are available.
- Effective workload rate: expected monthly bill divided by the number of usable captures your workload actually requires. This depends on billing rules and capture options.
For example, a plan that costs $17 per month and includes 2,000 screenshots has a simple included-quota rate of $0.0085 each. That arithmetic does not establish that every request costs $0.0085 or that the plan includes the same capture capabilities as another service.

ScreenshotNeo’s plan prices and quotas are the supplied product terms; its page describes the Free plan as 1,000 shots per month with no card, and all features are available on every plan. See ScreenshotNeo. ScreenshotOne’s and Urlbox’s quota figures and pricing above are from their official pricing pages, checked October 3, 2026: ScreenshotOne pricing and Urlbox pricing.
On the displayed numbers, ScreenshotNeo’s paid tiers have the lowest simple included-quota rate in this illustrative set, but price per unit is not a service-quality comparison. The plans may differ in what counts as a unit, render weighting, limits, and feature fit. Urlbox describes Hi-Fi as suitable for most use cases; that label is not evidence of equivalence to another provider’s plans.

Why a request is not always one billable page
Successful captures, failures, and cache hits
Check whether quota measures all API calls, successful renders, or successful uncached outputs. ScreenshotOne says failed screenshots and eligible cached screenshots do not count toward its quota, subject to its caching behavior and rules (pricing details). That can make its billed unit differ from a raw request count.

ScreenshotNeo states that bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Its responses include X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers to report the result and billing status. Apply the provider’s exact rules to your expected success and cache rates rather than assuming all attempted requests are billable.
Rank #3
Weighted renders and advanced capture options
A provider may debit multiple render credits for one output. Urlbox documents additional render use based on request duration (one render per 30-second period), file size (one per 5 MB), GPU acceleration (twice the renders), and advanced features. Certified archive storage also uses an additional render per year of storage. Confirm the current implementation and the exact options you intend to use before calculating a workload bill (Urlbox pricing).
ScreenshotNeo lists 63 options, including full-page capture with lazy images loaded, PDF output and settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, device and viewport controls, waiting conditions, request blocking, and cookies or headers. Its stated plan model makes every feature available on every plan; do not transfer another provider’s credit multipliers to ScreenshotNeo or assume that another vendor prices these options the same way.

Bulk scheduled capture can be a different product
Scheduled, retained bulk captures may have a separate quota and billing model from an on-demand screenshot API. Urlbox’s Capturedeck is a distinct scheduled-capture offering, with its own capture limits and terms. Its page lists Solo at $29 for up to 1,000 captures, Basic at $49 for 3,000, Standard at $99 for 10,000, and Pro at $299 for 50,000 per month; it warns that advanced capture scenarios can consume more credits than a typical full-page capture (Capturedeck plans). Do not substitute these figures for Urlbox API render pricing.

- Write down the workload. Estimate unique pages per month, repeat visits, schedule, and expected output format. Include whether you need full-page output, PDFs, mobile viewports, or other advanced options.
- Fix a representative capture specification. Use the same target pages, viewport, full-page behavior, waits, output format, and other requirements when evaluating each provider. A cheaper plan that cannot perform the required capture is not an equivalent option.
- Translate requests into the provider’s billing unit. Determine whether each request, successful render, uncached render, or weighted credit is charged. Apply documented multipliers to the options in your workload.
- Account for outcomes and cache behavior. Estimate failed attempts and repeat requests likely to hit cache, then apply each provider’s stated counting rules. Do not assume a failed request is free unless the provider says so.
- Apply quota, overage, and hard limits. Calculate the bill at your expected monthly usage, including overage rates and any hard cap or throughput constraint. If the pricing model is not a simple overage, model its base fee and usage charge separately.
- Divide by usable outputs. For a useful effective rate, divide the expected monthly bill by the number of successful captures you need, not by API attempts. Keep the plan’s included-quota rate beside it so the two measures are not confused.
A practical worksheet should have one row per plan and columns for billing interval, price, included quota, unit definition, overage and limit, failed-request treatment, cache treatment, render multipliers, request-per-minute limit, required formats and features, storage or integrations, expected bill, and effective cost per successful output. Use “not stated” rather than guessing when the provider’s public terms do not give a value.

Pick a provider by workload fit, not the smallest fraction
For a straightforward first comparison of screenshot APIs, ScreenshotNeo is the first option to evaluate: clean shots remove consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, and only clean shots are billed. Its full pricing and product details are at screenshotneo.com. Then compare it with ScreenshotOne or Urlbox using the same workload and the rules above; the cited pricing pages do not establish equivalent service performance.
- Low, predictable volume: a free allowance can be more useful than a low theoretical unit price on a plan whose quota you will not use.
- High volume: compare marginal overage or higher-tier rates, and model actual weighted usage rather than ranking plans solely by monthly quota division.
- Many retries or repeat page visits: inspect failure and cache rules; those determine whether attempts and repeated outputs consume units.
- Complex captures: verify the exact credit treatment for long waits, large outputs, GPU use, PDFs, archive retention, and advanced browser features.
- Scheduled monitoring or bulk retention: compare dedicated bulk-capture products separately from per-request screenshot APIs.
Or skip the browser setup
Instead of provisioning a browser and building capture cleanup into your own workflow, ScreenshotNeo provides a one-request screenshot API. This cURL example saves a WebP capture of Stripe:
Quick Recap
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and the Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free.
