If ScreenshotAPI.to rejected your Indian debit card at checkout, first check the card and billing details, available balance and limits, online or international transaction settings, recurring-payment permissions if relevant, and any 3D Secure approval. Ask your bank to identify the decline. If the problem is instead an HTTP 402 from the screenshot API, that means the documented plan allowance and credits are exhausted—not that your card was declined.
First identify where the failure happened
Checkout or billing-page decline
If an error appeared while entering card details, buying credits, or starting a subscription, treat it as a payment authorization or checkout problem. ScreenshotAPI.to says it accepts major credit cards, debit cards, and select local payment methods through its payment provider, but its pricing page does not identify eligible Indian banks, card networks, debit-card variants, or which local methods will appear for an individual account. A debit card working at another merchant does not establish that this transaction will be approved.

HTTP 402 from the API
If the response came from /api/v1/screenshot, ScreenshotAPI.to documents HTTP 402 as the monthly plan limit being reached with no credits remaining. Check the allowance and credit balance, and read the quota/reset and billing details in the response. Use its upgrade path or wait for the reset if that suits your needs; submitting the same card again will not restore exhausted API quota. See the API reference.

A capture or authentication error
Do not treat every failed screenshot as a payment failure. ScreenshotAPI.to documents 401 for a missing API key and 403 for an invalid or revoked key. It also says failed captures do not consume allowance or credits. Check the API key and the specific response before changing billing details.

Troubleshoot a checkout decline
- Verify the details and available funds. Re-enter the card number, expiry date, CVC, and billing address as registered with the bank. Check available balance, card limits, and any pending holds that could reduce the amount available. General card-decline guidance identifies incorrect details, insufficient funds, and bank blocks on online or international payments as common checks; Shopify’s India billing guidance also lists funds, limits, and holds as possible factors. These are general diagnostic checks, not ScreenshotAPI-specific decline codes: OpenAI Help Center and Shopify Help Center.
- Ask your issuer about the relevant permissions. Check that online or e-commerce transactions are enabled. Ask whether this particular attempt requires international usage permission and, only if the checkout is recurring, whether recurring or mandate payments are enabled. Do not assume ScreenshotAPI’s transaction is international or recurring; ask the bank which category applies and what restriction, if any, caused the decline.
- Complete 3D Secure if prompted. Let the bank page or app handoff finish, then enter the OTP or approve the transaction in the banking app. Avoid refreshing or closing checkout during authentication. If no prompt appears, authentication fails, or the payment still declines, ask the issuer whether authentication was required and whether it can see the authorization attempt.
- Retry once after fixing an identified issue. Record the exact checkout error, time, displayed currency and amount, and any transaction or reference ID. Avoid repeated rapid attempts: they can leave confusing pending authorizations or prompt further issuer checks, though no ScreenshotAPI-specific retry limit is established in the public information.
- Contact the party that can see the failure. The issuer can identify an authorization decline or card restriction. If it reports no attempt, or says it approved the payment, contact ScreenshotAPI.to support with the timestamp, exact error, account email, and any reference displayed. Never send your full card number, CVC, OTP, or banking password. OpenAI’s general card guidance notes that merchants may not receive detailed bank decline reasons, so the issuer is often the quickest source.
What Indian debit-card users should not assume
- The label “debit card” does not confirm that online, international, recurring, or a particular merchant-category transaction is permitted. Ask the issuer which setting or decline reason applies to this attempt.
- Rules for another merchant do not establish ScreenshotAPI.to’s payment routing or requirements. For example, Shopify’s India billing information is useful as a general checklist, not proof of ScreenshotAPI’s processor, transaction amount, or applicable threshold.
- Successful OTP entry alone does not prove the merchant charge was approved. An anecdotal report about a different API provider cannot establish what happened in a ScreenshotAPI.to checkout.
- ScreenshotAPI.to’s March 26, 2026 changelog mentions Polar for subscription management and metered billing. That dated vendor note does not establish the route used for a specific failed payment or explain a bank’s decision. See the changelog.
Try ScreenshotAPI.to without entering a card
ScreenshotAPI.to advertises a free plan with 200 screenshots per month and says no card is required for that tier. Its pricing page also lists subscriptions and pay-as-you-go credit packs, but does not specify which payment methods are available to each Indian account. If you only need to evaluate the API, the no-card free tier avoids a paid checkout while you troubleshoot.
Or skip the browser setup: use ScreenshotNeo
If your immediate goal is to get a website screenshot rather than resolve this checkout, ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server includes tools for AI agents such as Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
