ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try if you want URL or HTML-to-image capture with consent banners, popups and chat widgets removed before the screenshot, and billing that excludes failed or blank captures. Other options fit different needs: ScreenshotOne has published usage tiers, Browserless pairs screenshots with browser automation, and ScreenshotAPI.to offers a limited keyless endpoint. The right replacement depends on your inputs, output formats, workflow and target sites—not a universal feature checklist.
Start with what you need to replace
Urlbox supports URL and HTML rendering. Before switching, identify the actual workflow: whether you submit a URL or raw HTML, which image or document formats you need, and whether a synchronous response is enough or you need a larger asynchronous process. Also check the controls your application relies on, such as full-page capture, waiting for dynamic content, or a hosted render link.
Urlbox says failed requests are not charged and defines a successful render as one that returns an image. Its pricing page says Render Links are cached for 30 days by default and cached Render Link requests do not count against the monthly quota; it also describes Amazon S3 storage on eligible plans. Check the current plan, quota, feature tier and workflow fit directly with Urlbox before comparing costs, because the available plan details can change.

Match the service to the reason you are switching
- Cost: Compare your expected successful, uncached renders and any overage or rate-limit costs—not just the entry price.
- Feature coverage: Check whether the endpoint accepts inline HTML and supports the capture controls, formats and delivery model your integration needs.
- Operational behavior: Find out how failed loads, cache hits and blocked pages are treated, and test those behaviors on your own sites.
- Workflow: Decide whether you need only screenshots or browser automation controls as well.
Compare the alternatives
The table separates documented capabilities from details that need direct verification. Vendor plan pages and feature documentation are not independent tests of rendering fidelity or reliability.
| Service | Documented fit | Price or limit information available here | Verify before choosing |
|---|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | URL screenshots and PDF, plus HTML/CSS-to-image; offers a screenshot API and an MCP server for AI agents. It removes known consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, with each cleanup step optional. | Free: 1,000 shots/month without a card; Starter: $5 for 3,000; Growth: $15 for 15,000; Pro: $39 for 60,000; Scale: $99 for 250,000; Business: $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free; every feature is on every plan. ScreenshotNeo | Check the docs for the request parameters and capture controls your integration requires. |
| ScreenshotOne | GET and POST requests; HTML rendering; full-page screenshots; PNG, WebP, JPEG and other formats. | Its pricing page, accessed 2026-10-03, lists up to 100 screenshots/month free, Basic at $17/month for 2,000, Growth at $79/month for 10,000 and Scale at $259/month for 50,000. Prices exclude VAT. ScreenshotOne pricing | Recheck current prices, VAT, request limits, cache treatment and which advanced features are included at your chosen tier. |
| Browserless | POST screenshot endpoint accepting either a URL or inline HTML; PNG, JPEG and WebP; full-page and selector-based capture; script and style injection. Its docs say not to submit both url and html in one request. |
Plan costs and comparable quotas are not stated in the documentation summarized here. | Confirm cost, concurrency and usage caps, as well as the browser setup your workflow requires. |
| ScreenshotAPI.to | Authenticated URL or raw HTML capture, and a public keyless endpoint for quick tests or low-volume embeds. | The documented keyless endpoint allows 8 requests per minute, has tighter caps, and does not support PDF. | Confirm authenticated-plan pricing, quotas, reliability and output or feature limits; the keyless constraints do not establish those details for authenticated plans. |
ScreenshotNeo is first to try when clean output and explicit treatment of failed captures matter: it removes common page overlays before capture, and only clean shots are billed. Among the paid prices listed above, its $5 Starter plan is the lowest; prices and quotas should be checked on the vendors’ current pages before a purchase.

How the documented options differ
- ScreenshotOne: A screenshot-focused API with both GET and POST support. Its documentation says only successful renders not served from cache count toward quota; its FAQ notes that cache misses can trigger a rerender that counts against usage. Its getting-started documentation recommends HTTPS because HTTP can expose keys, authorization headers, cookies or other sensitive request data in transit. The documented POST body limit is 100 MiB.
- Browserless: Worth evaluating when screenshot capture is one part of a browser-automation workflow. Its endpoint also allows scrolling before capture to trigger lazy loading. Browserless documentation describes bot-blocking symptoms and links to a separate unblock API, but that does not establish pass rates on your target sites.
- ScreenshotAPI.to: The public keyless endpoint is narrowly suited to quick tests or low-volume use within its stated restrictions. Do not assume its keyless caps describe the authenticated service.
- Urlbox: Keep it as the baseline if its current plan, successful-render billing, Render Link caching or eligible-plan storage matches your application. Its statements about blocked-page handling do not establish comparative success rates.
Run a fair bake-off before migrating
Feature lists cannot tell you which service renders your pages most accurately or reliably. Test each candidate with the same inputs under the conditions your application will use. This is a test method, not a claim that these services have been benchmarked against one another.
- Build a representative fixture set. Include ordinary pages, pages with consent banners or other overlays, dynamic pages, long pages with lazy-loaded images, and the raw HTML your application submits. Use pages you are authorized to capture.
- Hold capture conditions constant. Match viewport dimensions, full-page versus viewport capture, output format, wait condition and any script or style injection. If a service offers no equivalent control, record the difference rather than treating the output as directly comparable.
- Repeat captures. Run each fixture more than once to observe variation and cache behavior. Keep cache settings and request timing consistent where the services allow it.
- Inspect the actual images. Track whether the expected content is visible, whether lazy-loaded sections appeared, whether overlays remain, and whether the result is clipped or blank.
- Record operational results. Measure success rate and latency under your own conditions, and log billed usage alongside cache hits and failures. Vendor billing rules differ, so compare your expected bill using the service’s current plan and definitions.
- Test failure and blocked-page cases separately. A CAPTCHA, bot check or failed load is not evidence of a normal successful screenshot. Record how each service reports it and how it bills it; do not infer comparative pass rates from vendor feature descriptions.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo takes a URL in one GET request and returns an image or PDF. Its cleanup options can accept cookie/consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients. Plans include 1,000 shots/month free without a card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Try ScreenshotNeo first if cleaning overlays, knowing whether a capture was billed, or giving AI agents screenshot tools is central to the job. Consider ScreenshotOne when its documented GET/POST workflow, HTML rendering and published tiers fit your needs. Evaluate Browserless when screenshots need to sit alongside browser control, and use ScreenshotAPI.to’s keyless endpoint only when its stated limits and lack of PDF support are acceptable. Keep Urlbox in the comparison if its current workflow and plan still fit. In every case, decide with repeatable tests on representative pages and confirm live pricing, quotas and limits before migrating.
