Save Page WE and PrintFriendly do different jobs
Save Page WE is designed to preserve a page as a portable HTML document with its resources embedded. PrintFriendly is designed to turn a live webpage into a cleaner, editable document or image. The distinction is archival-style browser viewing versus cleanup and export.

Save Page WE: one HTML file
The Mozilla Add-ons listing describes saving a webpage “as currently displayed” as a single HTML file that can be opened in a browser. The file embeds HTML and referenced resources, using data URIs for binary assets. Capture choices include Basic, Standard, and Custom:

It also documents lazy-content loading, saving selected tabs, and saving a supplied list of URLs. The listing identifies version 28.11, last updated March 31, 2023; that is listing metadata, not a guarantee about behavior with every current browser release. PrintFriendly: clean up, edit, and export
PrintFriendly opens a cleaned-up version of a page where you can remove content and resize text or images before printing, saving a PDF, or capturing an image. Its feature documentation also lists Word and Markdown exports, copying text, cloud-save destinations, and full-page or current-view screenshots. Feature availability varies by device: some tools, including image resizing, crop, Zotero integration, and certain PDF tools for uploaded files, are documented as unavailable on iPhone and iPad. How to save a webpage as one HTML file
- Install Save Page WE from the official browser add-on listing and review its current permissions before enabling access to websites.
- Open the page you want to keep and let it load. If it uses lazy-loaded content, use the extension’s option to load lazy content before saving.
- Select the capture level: Basic for the currently displayed page and its images/CSS, Standard for broader image and media capture, or Custom to choose additional resource types.
- Save the current page, selected tabs, or a URL list using the applicable extension option.
- Open the resulting
.htmlfile in a browser and check important images, fonts, media, and layout before relying on it as an archive.
How to remove clutter and save a page as PDF
- Open the webpage in a browser where PrintFriendly is available, then start its extension workflow.
- Review the cleaned-up page. Remove remaining sections you do not need and adjust text or image sizes where those controls are available.
- Choose print or the desired export, such as PDF, Word, Markdown, or image, depending on the feature and device.
- Inspect the exported file, especially page breaks, images, and any content whose layout matters.

Limitations that affect offline copies and exports
Save Page WE may not preserve every remote element
Its listing says some cross-origin frames cannot be saved and cross-origin scripts are not saved. A single HTML file therefore does not guarantee that every interactive component, third-party embed, or remote behavior will work offline. The listing offers options to warn about resources that could not be saved.
PrintFriendly features vary by browser and device
Most cleanup features require a live webpage. PrintFriendly’s Chrome page says that after a page has loaded, editing and saving to PDF can continue without reconnecting. Some features require sign-in or have daily limits. Its help page specifies Firefox version 140 or newer at the time accessed; browser requirements and feature availability can change, so check the current documentation before installation or troubleshooting.
Choosing based on portability, editing, and support
- For a page you want to revisit in a browser as a locally stored document, start with Save Page WE and verify that key assets survived.
- For a readable handout or printout, choose PrintFriendly when you need to delete sections or adjust page content before export.
- For a batch of tabs or URLs, Save Page WE documents both workflows.
- For iPhone or iPad, check PrintFriendly’s device-specific feature list; not every desktop feature is available there.

Common problems and fixes
The saved HTML is missing an embed or interactive feature
Cross-origin frames and scripts may not be saved by Save Page WE. Try a different capture option for supported resource types, use the extension’s warning options to identify missing resources, or keep the original page URL for content that depends on remote services.
Images or other lazy-loaded content are absent
Use Save Page WE’s lazy-content loading option before capture. Then reopen the saved file and check the specific images or media you need.
The PrintFriendly result still contains unwanted content
Review the cleaned page before exporting and remove the remaining sections manually. If a control is missing, check whether the feature is supported on your browser and device.

PrintFriendly cannot start in Firefox
Its help documentation listed Firefox 140 or newer as the minimum at the time accessed. Check the current requirement and extension availability; these can change.

You cannot edit after losing the connection
PrintFriendly’s Chrome page says editing and PDF saving can continue offline after the page has loaded. The documentation does not establish the same behavior for every browser, so load the page and begin cleanup while connected.

PrintFriendly’s Chrome listing displayed 4.6 stars and 5,600 reviews, alongside 1,000,000 users, when accessed October 3, 2026; those storefront figures are volatile and do not demonstrate comparative capture quality.
