Choose the right saved-item setting for audio and video
Save Page WE saves a web page as a single HTML file. Its item choices determine which page resources the extension attempts to include; they are not a promise to extract every video stream a site plays.

Standard Items
Select Standard Items when you want the extension’s standard set of resources, which includes its listed HTML audio & video files category. This is the simpler choice if you do not need to customize individual resource types.

Select Custom Items when you want to choose resource categories individually. Check HTML audio & video files in the item list. This offers control over what is included, but it does not change the underlying limitation: saving a page resource is different from downloading or reconstructing a site’s streaming media.

The Save Page WE Chrome Web Store description characterizes the output as a complete page “as curently displayed” saved as one HTML file. That describes a page representation, not a guarantee that all external resources remain available or that embedded media will play offline.
Review frame settings in Options
Frames and media are separate concerns. A page may embed another page in a frame, including one hosted on a different origin. Save Page WE’s Options include controls for retaining cross-origin frames and limiting the depth of nested frames.
Retain cross-origin frames
Review Retain cross-origin frames if the page embeds content from another site. A cross-origin frame is not the same as an ordinary image or video file: browser security rules and the embedded site’s behavior can affect what the extension can preserve. Enabling the option does not establish that every external frame will be captured successfully.

Maximum depth of saved nested frames
Review Maximum depth of saved nested frames when a frame itself contains another frame. The options markup lists a default value of 0, but does not explain that value’s precise effect in prose. Check the current help text or behavior in your installed version rather than assuming that 0 means either “save none” or “unlimited.”
Allow passive mixed content
Options also include Allow passive mixed content (image,audio,video). This setting concerns passive resources such as images, audio, and video when mixed-content browser rules are relevant. It is distinct from the cross-origin-frame and nested-frame controls, and should not be treated as a workaround for access controls or streaming protections.
Set up a save
- Open Save Page WE’s Options from your browser’s extension controls. Labels and placement can vary by browser and installed extension version.
- Choose Standard Items for the standard resource set, or choose Custom Items and check HTML audio & video files.
- Review Retain cross-origin frames and set Maximum depth of saved nested frames according to the page’s frame structure.
- If relevant to the page and browser security context, review Allow passive mixed content (image,audio,video).
- Save the page and open the resulting HTML file in a browser. Check the saved page and media individually; do not assume that an embedded player or its remote stream has become an offline video file.
What these settings do not guarantee
Save Page WE’s stated purpose is to save a page as HTML. A video player may load a stream dynamically, request media in segments, require authentication, or rely on scripts and remote services. Selecting the HTML audio/video resource category does not establish that those stream segments, credentials, or playback dependencies are saved. The available product materials do not establish site-by-site compatibility or a success rate.

The extension listing also names an Extract Image/Audio/Video action for use while viewing a saved page. That is a separate action from choosing what resources to include when saving. Its listing does not establish that it can extract protected, segmented, or otherwise unavailable streams from any particular website.
Old and new save methods are a separate choice
The Chrome Web Store listing distinguishes an old and a new save method. According to that listing, the old method is the default, remembers the last save location, and cannot save some pages in Chrome 84 or later. The listing says the new method can save all pages but does not remember the last save location. Those statements concern page-saving behavior; they are not a guarantee about video or frame capture.
Troubleshooting
The saved page opens, but the video will not play offline
The saved HTML may preserve the player or page structure without preserving the remote stream and all of its dependencies. Confirm whether the item is an ordinary HTML audio/video resource or a site-served stream. These settings alone cannot make an unavailable or protected stream downloadable.

An embedded frame is missing or incomplete
Check both frame controls: whether cross-origin frames should be retained and the configured maximum nested-frame depth. Then consider whether the embedded site depends on browser access rules or remote resources. The options indicate handling choices, not universal frame capture.
The labels or behavior differ from this guide
Check the version shown in your installed extension and use its current Options labels. The Chrome Web Store listing reports version 33.9, updated September 5, 2023; that is a dated listing fact, not confirmation that 33.9 remains the latest version. A repository mirror identifies a Firefox Manifest V2 version 28.11 as older and says its code was last updated in 2023, so do not treat it as proof of current Firefox store availability.
