If a website blocks access, first check whether the page opens directly in the same browser. If it does, investigate Save Page WE’s access to that site and possible page-specific capture limits. A website access error and an extension save failure are different problems; Save Page WE is not a way to bypass access controls. Only save pages you are permitted to access.
First identify what failed
Note what appears when you try to use the site and the extension:

- The site shows an access-denied or error page: the site or the route to it may be rejecting the visit.
- The site never loads: start with ordinary browser, network, or site troubleshooting.
- The site loads, but Save Page WE does nothing or reports a save problem: check extension access and whether the page has a capture limitation.
Record the exact message. Without the browser, site, and error details, there is no reliable way to attribute a particular failure to the site or the extension.

Check whether the website itself loads
- Open the page directly in the same browser, without invoking Save Page WE.
- If it fails, try the site’s home page and then compare with another browser.
- Use Mozilla’s website loading troubleshooting guidance to consider error messages, cookies, proxy configuration, and security protections.
If the page remains inaccessible, an extension cannot be assumed to fix the access or network problem. Clearing cookies is not guaranteed to resolve it.

Check whether the extension is allowed on the site
Chrome
Review Save Page WE’s site access in Chrome’s extension controls and follow any browser prompt about access. Chrome’s webRequest API documentation explains that extensions need relevant permissions and host access to see request data, and that webRequestBlocking is no longer available to most Manifest V3 extensions. This is platform context, not evidence that a Save Page WE failure is caused by webRequest or Manifest V3.
Firefox
Firefox can disable add-ons on certain websites for security reasons. If Firefox shows a restricted-site notice or the extension control is disabled, check the browser’s restricted-domain handling instead of repeatedly retrying the save action. Consider a page-specific capture limitation
Save Page WE is available for Firefox and Chrome; its Firefox listing says the versions have identical functions and user interfaces. The listing describes options to remove or rehide elements hidden by a page or other extensions, such as content blockers, and an option to show a warning when resources cannot be saved. Those settings may help explain an incomplete capture, but they do not grant access to a page the site has denied.

The Firefox listing documents the extension’s availability and options. The Chrome Web Store listing notes that its old save method is the default and cannot save some pages—for example, Yahoo—in Chrome 84 or later. Treat that as a specific compatibility note, not proof that all pages from that site fail or that it explains a current failure. The Chrome listing also states that Print Edit WE requires version 26.1 or later when used together.

Use the result to choose the next step

Escalate with details that can help support
If the site loads and extension access appears enabled but saving still fails, gather:
- Browser name and version, and Save Page WE version.
- The page address and the exact button action or settings used.
- The full warning or error text, and whether the failure repeats.
