Choose the Saucony Triumph 22 if you prefer a neutral platform and its responsive, cushioned daily-trainer ride. They are not same-generation alternatives: Hurricane 26 is a 2026 model, while Triumph 22 launched in 2024. Fit, width and comfort while actually running matter more than either label.
The decision in one sentence
The Hurricane 26 is the more support-focused option; the Triumph 22 is the neutral option. Both target cushioned daily running, but they approach it differently. Saucony describes Hurricane 26 as a max-cushion shoe for comfort, protection and fatigue-free movement, while its Triumph 22 launch positioned that model as a responsive neutral trainer for daily miles and weekend long runs. Those categories are useful starting points, not guarantees that every runner will feel stable or comfortable in the same shoe.

Hurricane 26 vs. Triumph 22 at a glance
| Factor | Saucony Hurricane 26 | Saucony Triumph 22 |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Stability-oriented max-cushion shoe, according to Saucony | Neutral cushioned daily trainer, according to Saucony’s launch positioning and independent reviews |
| Best starting point | Runners seeking guidance, protection and easy-run comfort | Runners seeking a neutral platform and a cushioned daily-run feel |
| Reported geometry | 6 mm drop; 41 mm heel and 35 mm forefoot stack in Tom’s Guide’s review | Not stated in the evidence used here; do not infer a direct geometry comparison |
| Release context | 2026 model | Launched in 2024 |
| Ride observations | Tom’s Guide found subtle support on both sides of the foot and a secure, broad profile; faster efforts felt clunky to that reviewer | Reviewers describe cushioning as responsive, with enough firmness to avoid an overly soft feel; added softness may reduce perceived stability for some runners |
| Main caveat | A stability designation does not prove it will suit every gait or foot shape | Neutral does not mean unstable for every runner; comfort and fit are individual |
The Hurricane measurements above are reviewer-reported product specifications, not population statistics. Triumph 22 geometry was not established in the source material, so a lower or higher stack, drop or rocker should not be assumed.

Stability with maximum cushioning
Saucony’s UK product page presents Hurricane 26 as a max-cushion model aimed at runners who prioritize comfort, protection and movement that feels less fatiguing. The page also distinguishes its incrediLUX cushioning from the brand’s race-day incrediRUN foam. That distinction places the Hurricane in a protective training role rather than presenting it as Saucony’s speed-focused racing platform.

In Tom’s Guide’s review, published October 10, 2026, the shoe has a 6 mm drop, a 41 mm heel stack and a 35 mm forefoot stack. The reviewer describes a broad profile and stability elements that provide subtle support on both sides of the foot. Those observations explain why the shoe can feel reassuring without the support necessarily being dramatic or intrusive.
How that support may feel on a run
“Stability” here should be read as a design and ride description, not a diagnosis or a prescription for pronation. A shoe can guide a runner’s foot through the stance phase while still feeling comfortable to someone who does not identify with a particular gait label. Conversely, a runner who expects a strong corrective sensation may find Hurricane 26’s support relatively understated.
Tom’s Guide found Hurricane 26 comfortable for daily training at easy paces. The same review says faster efforts felt clunky to that reviewer. That is a personal testing observation, not a universal speed limit, but it is relevant if your training week is dominated by intervals, tempo runs or fast progression sessions.
What the Triumph 22 is designed to do
Neutral cushioning for everyday miles
Saucony’s 2024 launch announcement describes Triumph 22 as an everyday neutral trainer with responsive cushioning for daily running and weekend long runs. Saucony’s chief product officer Brian Moore called the Triumph series “among the most cushioned premium neutral daily trainers available” and described it as a versatile option for runners seeking a higher level of comfort. That is manufacturer positioning, not an independent laboratory result.
Independent reviews broadly agree on the intended character while adding useful qualifications. Doctors of Running identifies Triumph 22 as neutral and notes that extra softness can reduce perceived stability for some runners. Fleet Feet characterizes the foam as firm enough for runners who want cushioning without an overly soft sensation. In practice, that means Triumph 22 is not automatically a sink-in, unstable shoe simply because it is cushioned; the way it feels depends on the runner, pace and fit.

Neutral does not mean unsupported
A neutral shoe generally avoids dedicated stability elements intended to guide the foot. It can still have a broad base, substantial foam and a secure upper. A runner who normally wears neutral shoes may find Triumph 22 stable enough for easy runs and long runs, while another runner may prefer Hurricane 26’s guidance. The category tells you how the shoe is built and marketed; it cannot predict your personal comfort.
The release-year mismatch matters
Hurricane 26 and Triumph 22 are separated by more than a model number. Hurricane 26 is a 2026 release, while Triumph 22 launched in 2024. They therefore are not direct same-generation updates being sold as two versions of one current platform. Foam formulations, upper construction, geometry and pricing can change between release cycles. A comparison is still useful because both are cushioned daily trainers, but claims such as “the newer version is better” are not established by the available evidence.

Which one suits your running?
Choose Hurricane 26 first when guidance is your priority
- You specifically want a stability-oriented design.
- You value a protective, max-cushion platform for easy or recovery runs.
- You prefer the feeling of a broad, secure base under the foot.
- Your priority is reducing the sense of fatigue on routine mileage rather than maximizing speed-session agility.
These are selection criteria, not promises. Try the shoe at your normal easy pace and pay attention to whether the guidance feels natural or distracting.
Choose Triumph 22 first when a neutral platform is your preference
- You normally run comfortably in neutral trainers.
- You want responsive cushioning for daily miles and occasional long runs.
- You prefer cushioning with some firmness rather than an especially soft, sinking feel.
- You want one versatile trainer and do not specifically seek stability features.
Triumph 22’s neutral construction does not make it unsuitable for longer runs; the launch positioning explicitly includes weekend long runs. It also does not guarantee that every runner will perceive it as stable.

If you are undecided
Start with comfort during movement, not the label on the heel counter. If both shoes are available, run or walk in each for several minutes, then compare them at the pace you will use most. The better choice is the one that lets you land, transition and push off without pressure points, unwanted foot movement or a support sensation you spend the whole run noticing.

Ride and stability: what to compare in person
Check the first contact
Notice whether the heel feels protected without forcing your foot into a position. Hurricane 26’s reported 41 mm heel stack is substantial, but stack height alone does not determine softness or stability. Triumph 22’s exact geometry was not established in the available evidence, so compare the actual feel rather than assuming one shoe must be taller.
Check the transition
Walk, jog and make a few gentle turns. Hurricane 26’s broad profile and subtle side support should feel like guidance, not a hard ridge under the arch. In Triumph 22, look for a smooth neutral transition and make sure the softer cushioning does not make you feel as if you are sliding inside the shoe.
Check the forefoot at your normal pace
Try a short acceleration only if you normally use the shoe for that purpose. Tom’s Guide reported Hurricane 26 felt clunky during faster efforts, so runners whose main requirement is speedwork should treat that as a caution. Do not assume the same experience for every runner, and do not turn one reviewer’s observation into a universal performance rating.
Fit, width and sizing: why there is no automatic winner
No universal sizing or fit rule for this pair was established. Foot shape, preferred sock thickness, width and tolerance for heel movement can change the result. A shoe that feels secure in one width may feel restrictive or loose in another, and a model that works for one runner’s arch can create pressure for someone else.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Use current manufacturer or retailer size and width information, because availability can change. If possible, try both shoes late in the day, when feet may be slightly larger, wearing the socks you run in. Leave enough room for your toes to move without allowing your heel to lift repeatedly. Test the shoes on a clean surface and confirm the return policy before an outdoor run; the policies and conditions are retailer-specific and were not verified here.
Signs the fit is wrong
- Toes touch the front when walking downhill or braking.
- The upper creates a concentrated hot spot over the instep or little toe.
- Your heel slips despite a properly tightened lacing pattern.
- You feel the shoe’s support or sidewall as a painful pressure rather than unobtrusive guidance.
- Your foot moves enough inside the shoe that you compensate by gripping with your toes.
These signs call for a different size, width or model—not a conclusion that stability or neutral shoes are inherently right or wrong for you.
Daily training, long runs and speed sessions
| Training need | Better starting point | Reason and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Easy and recovery miles | Hurricane 26 if you want guidance; Triumph 22 if you prefer neutral cushioning | Both are cushioned daily trainers; Hurricane’s comfort-at-easy-pace assessment comes from Tom’s Guide’s review |
| Weekend long runs | Triumph 22 or Hurricane 26, selected by support preference | Triumph 22 was launched for daily miles and weekend long runs; Hurricane 26 is positioned for protective training |
| Intervals and tempo work | Neither should be chosen solely from the category label | Tom’s Guide found Hurricane 26 clunky at faster efforts; no equivalent head-to-head speed test was established for Triumph 22 |
| Runners unsure about stability | Try both, starting with the model whose platform feels natural | Stability perception and comfort vary by runner; do not diagnose gait from a product description |
If your training includes frequent fast sessions, evaluate how easily each shoe changes pace rather than assuming a max-cushion model will be versatile in every workout. If most of your mileage is relaxed, protective cushioning and comfort may matter more than a quick-feeling transition.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Price and buying context
Tom’s Guide reports Hurricane 26 launched in summer 2026 at US $170 and UK £170. Those are launch prices reported for specific markets and are time-sensitive; verify the current price before buying. The evidence used here does not establish Triumph 22’s current price, sale status or inventory, so do not treat an old launch price or an unverified listing as current.

Before ordering, confirm the exact model, country currency, width, color and return terms. A discounted Triumph 22 may be attractive because it is an older release, but a lower price does not make it a technical equivalent of Hurricane 26. Conversely, Hurricane 26’s newer release does not by itself prove it is the better shoe for your foot.

A practical five-step choice process
- Define your support preference. Decide whether you actively want stability guidance or would rather stay with a neutral platform.
- Match the shoe to your main pace. For easy running, prioritize comfort and protection. If you expect frequent fast work, test transitions and acceleration; Hurricane 26’s faster-pace clunkiness was reported by one reviewer.
- Confirm fit and width. Use current size information, try both shoes if possible and check for heel security, toe room and pressure points.
- Run in each at realistic effort. A few walking steps can reveal obvious problems, but a short jog at your normal pace is more informative.
- Choose the shoe you stop noticing. The right model should feel secure and comfortable without requiring you to consciously manage its support or cushioning.
Common mistakes to avoid
Assuming stability is always safer
Hurricane 26’s stability orientation may be useful to a runner seeking guidance, but the label does not establish that it is safer or more comfortable for every person. An intrusive fit can be a poor match even when the category sounds appropriate.
Assuming neutral means unstable
Triumph 22 is neutral, yet its cushioning, platform and upper can still feel secure. Doctors of Running’s observation is narrower: added softness can reduce perceived stability for some runners. That is a sensation to test, not a universal verdict.
Comparing numbers that were not measured the same way
Hurricane 26’s 6 mm drop and 41/35 mm stack figures come from Tom’s Guide’s review. Triumph 22’s corresponding geometry was not established in the evidence here. Do not fill the missing values with estimates or compare figures gathered under unknown measurement methods.
Using a product category as a medical prescription
Neither shoe description diagnoses an injury, pronation pattern or need for orthotics. If pain persists, seek qualified clinical advice rather than changing shoes solely because a marketing category appears to match a symptom.
Bottom line for different runners
- Want the clearest stability starting point? Begin with Hurricane 26.
- Want a neutral, cushioned daily trainer? Begin with Triumph 22.
- Want easy-run protection and do not mind a substantial shoe? Hurricane 26 is the logical first try.
- Want cushioned comfort with a firmer, responsive sensation? Triumph 22 is the logical first try.
- Still unsure? Try both in the correct width and decide from comfort while running, not release year or category alone.
Hurricane 26 and Triumph 22 can both serve as cushioned daily trainers, but they answer different preferences. Hurricane 26 emphasizes guidance and protection in a 2026 stability-oriented package. Triumph 22 offers a neutral platform launched in 2024, with responsive cushioning intended for everyday miles and long runs. The best choice is the one whose support, width and ride feel natural under your own stride.
