Independent reviewers describe it as responsive and versatile for faster running, but their impressions are personal evaluations—not guarantees that it will suit every runner or make every runner faster.
What kind of running shoe is the Endorphin Speed 5?
Saucony positions the Endorphin Speed 5 for faster running, including track workouts and race-day efforts. The shoe combines PWRRUN PB foam with a full-length semi-rigid nylon plate between two foam layers. Saucony also lists a lightweight engineered mesh upper and a redesigned outsole with more heel coverage and a full-length groove. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of the construction and intended use, not independent performance measurements. Saucony’s product page classifies it as neutral.

That makes it a plausible option for runners looking for a plated shoe for speed sessions or faster efforts. The available reviews do not establish that it is a replacement for a dedicated daily trainer, or that its nylon plate performs like a carbon plate.

How does it feel on a run?
Reviewers broadly characterize the ride as responsive and suitable for a range of faster running, but these accounts reflect individual evaluations rather than controlled testing across runners.
Rank #2
- SUPER FOAM: Relish the soft cushion of PWRRUN PB while you put in daily miles, and feel the power of the foam when it’s time to pick up the pace
- DURABILITY & TRACTION: The XT-900 rubber outsole is engineered to withstand the miles with you, placed where you need it to get the most out of your runs.
- SPEEDROLL: A hallmark of the Endorphin series, SPEEDROLL is designed to enhance your transitions, creating a smooth, faster and more efficient ride.
- 8mm Offset
- Believe in the Run discusses the PWRRUN PB midsole, winged nylon plate and Speedroll geometry in its review. Its reported 36/28 mm stack aligns with Saucony’s listed figures.
- iRunFar describes a responsive ride and evaluates the updated winged nylon plate in terms of flexibility and stability. Those are the publication’s impressions, not outcomes assured for every stride or runner.
- Tom’s Guide reports testing a pair for 60 miles and calls it versatile based on that reviewer’s experience.
Together, these reviews support considering the shoe for workouts and quicker running, but they do not provide a side-by-side test that establishes an advantage over a particular competitor. The rocker, foam and plate are design features; whether their combination feels smooth or stable depends on the runner and the run.
Fit: use reviews as a clue, not a sizing rule
Tom’s Guide’s reviewer says the shoe fit in their usual size. That is one person’s report and cannot establish a reliable size recommendation for different foot shapes or preferences. Saucony’s specifications do not resolve that uncertainty. If possible, try the shoe on; otherwise, check the retailer’s current width selection, fit guidance and return terms before ordering.
Rank #3
- Designed as an up-tempo shoe, it’s quickly proven itself as much more, equally capable during long, moderate training sessions and sprints to the finish.
- Energy efficient PWRRUN PB foam bounces back with every step combined with a winged nylon plate that provides torsional rigidity while maintaining flexibility in the forefoot, making for a sure footed, snappy ride
- SPEEDROLL technology for effortless speed and addictive forward motion you can rely on daily
- Increased amount of rubber coverage in the heel, extending further up the shoe and to the edges for added durability
- Full length longitudinal groove to add increased flexibility for a more natural, smooth transition in your gate cycle
Durability: what the mileage reports show
Doctors of Running reports that one reviewer noticed wear on exposed PWRRUN PB outsole areas after 45 miles on a pair. This is a limited observation, not a lifespan estimate and not enough evidence to conclude that the shoe wears out quickly. The available evidence does not establish an expected mileage range.
Price and availability
Tom’s Guide reported 2025 launch prices of $175 in the US and £180 in the UK. Those are launch-price figures reported in 2025, not confirmation of today’s price. Current prices, discounts, colorways, stock and sizing availability can vary by country and retailer, so check a local retailer’s live listing before buying.

Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want a neutral shoe designed for faster running and are interested in a PWRRUN PB midsole paired with a semi-rigid nylon plate.
- Assess it in person if fit is uncertain; a single reviewer’s usual-size experience cannot predict yours.
- Look for more evidence if you need a known durability range or a direct comparison against another model. The available observations do not establish either.
For a purchase decision, separate the shoe’s documented design and listed specifications from the subjective ride reports, then check fit and the current local price. That is a more dependable basis than treating the words “speed trainer” or any one reviewer’s impression as a promise.
