What you need to make a Computer
The standard Computer recipe becomes available with the Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing unlock. Its automated version runs in a Manufacturer. Each completed cycle consumes the three intermediate components below and returns one Computer.

The cycle rate is calculated from 60 seconds divided by the 24-second cycle. The quantities above are the recipe inputs for one cycle, not a per-minute requirement.
How to unlock the normal Computer recipe
- Complete the Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing unlock. Computer is gated behind this tier, so it will not be available for factory production before that milestone is unlocked.
- Open the Computer recipe entry. Confirm that the standard recipe lists a Manufacturer and the three inputs: Circuit Boards, Cable, and Plastic.
- Build a Manufacturer. Place it where conveyors can reach all three input ports and where the output can continue to storage or the next production stage.
- Supply the inputs. Route Circuit Boards, Cable, and Plastic into the Manufacturer, then connect its output to a belt, container, or downstream machine.
- Start the machine. Once all three inputs are present and the output is not blocked, the Manufacturer begins a 24-second cycle.
The Computer entry can also show a Crafting Bench option for manual production. That is useful for making an occasional unit, but it does not replace a Manufacturer when you need a continuous supply.

Standard recipe: input rates and factory planning
At 2.5 Computers per minute, one continuously running Manufacturer consumes the following average rates:

These averages assume the Manufacturer is running without pauses. If an input line delivers less than the listed rate, the machine idles and its actual output falls. If the output belt or storage is full, the machine also stops even when all three inputs are available.

Balancing the three input lines
- Provide a dependable Circuit Board stream first; it is one of the four components required by the recipe and is also used elsewhere in a mid-game factory.
- Size Cable production for 20 Cable per minute per Computer Manufacturer.
- Reserve 40 Plastic per minute per machine, with additional capacity if the same plastic line feeds other recipes.
- Keep a buffer container on each input when upstream production is intermittent. A buffer can absorb short interruptions, but it cannot compensate for a permanently undersized line.
- Leave room for the output belt and storage. A full Computer output prevents another cycle from completing.
Where Computers fit in progression
Computer is a mid-game component rather than an end product. It is used in the Caterium, Alien Technology, Sulfur, and Quartz research chains in the MAM. It is also an ingredient for Adaptive Control Unit, Path Signal, Programmable Splitter, and Radar Tower.
Because several research and infrastructure paths can request Computers at the same time, a single Manufacturer may be enough for an initial unlock but not for a factory that is advancing through multiple chains. Add machines only after checking the actual downstream demand and the supply available for Circuit Boards, Cable, and Plastic.

Alternate Computer recipes
Hard Drive scans can offer two alternate Computer recipes. Both alternatives still require Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing, and each also has a separate MAM research prerequisite. The alternate is not available merely because a Hard Drive has been found; the prerequisite research must be completed before the scan can offer it.

How to get the Caterium Computer alternate
- Unlock Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing.
- Complete the MAM Caterium Research – Caterium Ingots prerequisite.
- Find and scan a Hard Drive after both requirements are available.
- If the Caterium Computer option is offered, select it from the available alternate recipes.
- Build a Manufacturer and supply Circuit Boards, Quickwire, and Rubber.
The Caterium version completes a cycle in 16 seconds and outputs one Computer, giving 3.75 Computers per minute per recipe cycle. At continuous operation, one machine averages 15 Circuit Boards, 52.5 Quickwire, and 22.5 Rubber per minute.

How to get the Crystal Computer alternate
- Unlock Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing.
- Complete the MAM Quartz Research – Quartz Crystals prerequisite.
- Scan a Hard Drive after the prerequisite and tier are active.
- Select Crystal Computer if it appears among the scan results.
- Build an Assembler rather than a Manufacturer, then provide Circuit Boards and Crystal Oscillators.
Crystal Computer has a 36-second cycle and produces two Computers per cycle. That works out to about 3.333 Computers per minute per Assembler. At that rate, one continuously operating machine uses about 5 Circuit Boards and 1.667 Crystal Oscillators per minute.

There is no universally best option established by these recipe values. Choose the recipe that matches the input chain your factory can supply consistently.
When the standard recipe is the practical choice
- You already have stable Cable and Plastic production.
- You want to keep Computer production in a Manufacturer without adding an Assembler line.
- You have not completed the Caterium or Quartz MAM prerequisite.
- You need a straightforward setup while expanding other Tier 6 production.
When Caterium Computer fits better
- Quickwire and Rubber are easier for your factory to provide than Cable and Plastic.
- You want the highest listed output rate: 3.75 Computers per minute per Manufacturer.
- You have completed the Caterium Ingots research and obtained the recipe through a Hard Drive scan.
When Crystal Computer fits better
- Crystal Oscillators are already available in surplus.
- You prefer an Assembler-based line or want to avoid the Caterium/Quickwire/Rubber chain.
- You have completed Quartz Research – Quartz Crystals and unlocked the recipe from a Hard Drive scan.
Hard Drive scans and alternate-recipe availability
Alternate recipes come from scanning Hard Drives. The relevant MAM research and the required building or tier can affect whether a particular option is eligible to appear. If a scan does not offer Caterium Computer or Crystal Computer, verify the corresponding prerequisite research and Tier 6 unlock before spending more time searching for another Hard Drive.
Keep in mind that a Hard Drive scan offers a selection rather than a guaranteed specific recipe. The unlock method therefore has two separate parts: make the prerequisite eligible, then obtain the alternate through a qualifying scan.
Troubleshooting a Computer line
The recipe is not visible
- Confirm that Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing is unlocked.
- For an alternate, confirm the exact MAM prerequisite: Caterium Ingots for Caterium Computer or Quartz Crystals for Crystal Computer.
- Remember that the alternate must still be obtained from a Hard Drive scan after the prerequisite is active.
The Manufacturer is not running
- Check all three input ports. The standard recipe needs Circuit Boards, Cable, and Plastic simultaneously.
- Check that the output belt or storage has room for Computers.
- Compare delivered rates with the continuous averages: 10 Circuit Boards, 20 Cable, and 40 Plastic per minute for one standard machine.
- Inspect splitters and mergers for a blocked or incorrectly prioritized line.
The alternate produces less than expected
- Caterium Computer needs 4 Circuit Boards, 14 Quickwire, and 6 Rubber every 16 seconds.
- Crystal Computer runs in an Assembler, not a Manufacturer, and needs 3 Circuit Boards plus 1 Crystal Oscillator every 36 seconds.
- Calculate actual output from the slowest supplied input line; the listed rates assume uninterrupted operation.
Version and update note
Recipe quantities, cycle times, unlock requirements, and alternate-recipe pools can change in a game update. The values in this guide describe the listed Computer recipes and should be checked against the in-game recipe entry after a major Satisfactory patch, especially before redesigning a large production floor.
