Is this the right kind of card for Switch 2?

Yes. SanDisk describes this model as officially licensed and “designed, tested, and approved for use with Nintendo Switch™ 2.” Switch 2 expansion uses microSD Express cards; do not assume an older standard microSD card supported by the original Switch can fill the same role. SanDisk’s support documentation distinguishes Switch 2 Express support from microSD support for older Switch systems.

  • ROOM FOR YOUR ADVENTURES. With capacities up to 512GB[1], your card gives you the freedom to store your digital games in one place.

SanDisk lists sequential read speeds of up to 880 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 650 MB/s for this 512GB model. Those are manufacturer maximum specifications, not guaranteed results in every console or a promise of proportionally faster game loading. Performance can vary with the host device, interface, usage and other conditions.

Will 512GB suit your game library?

Choose capacity based on how many games you expect to keep installed at once, including downloads and updates. A 512GB card offers substantial room for a growing library, but the space available for games will be lower than the card’s nominal capacity because the system and formatting use storage. If you regularly uninstall games after finishing them or rely on physical releases, you may need less; if you keep many digital titles installed, more capacity may be useful.

How it compares with other Switch 2 cards

SanDisk, Samsung, Lexar and PNY have appeared in current coverage of microSD Express options. The right comparison depends on the particular model and the price available when you shop. Compare capacity, explicit Switch 2 microSD Express compatibility, licensing, the manufacturer’s claimed speed figures, and the current price per gigabyte. Do not compare peak read or write specifications as if they were independent real-world game-loading tests.

SanDisk’s product-family page gives a sustained-write figure for its 256GB version, but that number does not establish sustained performance for this 512GB model. Check the exact capacity’s specifications rather than carrying figures across versions.
