Prime Video will become the exclusive global streaming home of the Emmy Awards in 2027 under a six-year agreement, and the ceremony is planned to stream live without a Prime subscription. The Television Academy and Amazon have not disclosed the deal’s financial terms, so the reported $120 million figure is not an officially confirmed price.
What the Emmy–Prime Video deal confirms
The Television Academy and Amazon announced the agreement on October 6, 2026. It makes Prime Video the Emmys’ exclusive global home for six years, beginning with the 2027 ceremony. The Academy says the ceremony will continue to air live in September. The Television Academy’s announcement says the stream will be available live and free in more than 240 countries and territories, with no subscription required.

The $120 million figure is reported, not confirmed by the parties. The Verge’s headline reported that Amazon is paying that amount, but the Television Academy and Amazon announcements do not disclose financial terms. The Verge article page was unavailable for review, so the figure’s sourcing and whether it refers to the full agreement, an annual amount, or another measure could not be established. It should not be treated as an official deal price or divided into an annual payment.

When the Emmys move to Prime Video
The 2027 ceremony is the first under the new agreement and is planned for September, live on Prime Video. The change follows the end of the annual broadcast-network rotation, which concluded with the 2026 telecast. The Academy’s announcement about the 2026 broadcast identifies ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC as the networks in that rotation. The public announcement describes a six-year term but does not give a specific end date.

Why the Academy says it chose one partner
Academy chair Cris Abrego told the Associated Press that working with one partner for six years would let the organizations “learn together and build from year to year together.” The explanation points to continuity as the stated rationale for replacing the annual network rotation; it does not establish how viewership or the ceremony’s reach will change. Associated Press coverage also reports the partnership announcement.

The Academy’s release describes a broader, year-round cultural initiative, but it does not provide a schedule of additional programming. Prime Video head Mike Hopkins called the free stream a way to deliver entertainment to customers worldwide; that is Amazon’s stated aim, not evidence of audience outcomes.
