Samsung Wallet is the newer app that brings Samsung Pay’s payment-card functions together with Samsung Pass and other supported digital items. Paying with a saved card remains central, and eligible card rewards and benefits continue to apply. What you can add beyond payment—and whether Wallet works on your phone—depends on your country or region, Galaxy model, carrier and firmware.
Samsung Wallet vs Samsung Pay: What changed?
Samsung announced Samsung Wallet on June 16, 2022. The launch combined Samsung Pay with Samsung Pass in one app. In the initial markets, Samsung said eligible users could migrate through their existing Pay or Pass apps.

The launch announcement named the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. That list describes the launch, not a current availability list. Samsung said timing and features could vary by market and device, and the same regional variation matters when assessing Wallet today.
Samsung’s US FAQ describes Wallet as built on the Samsung Pay app, with Samsung Pass features and more. In practical terms, the app is a broader home for supported digital items as well as payment cards; the change was not simply a new name for the same set of features.

What still works for payments?
Payment cards remain a core Wallet function. Samsung’s US purchases FAQ says card rewards and benefits—such as points or cash back—continue when you pay through Wallet. The benefit still depends on the card issuer’s rules and on the merchant and transaction meeting the relevant terms. Wallet does not make every purchase eligible for every card reward.
Samsung’s description supports continuity of payment-card functionality and applicable card benefits. It does not establish that every Pay-era feature, card, or payment arrangement is available to every Wallet user in every market. Check whether your specific card and local setup are supported rather than assuming that a feature carries over universally.

What Samsung Wallet adds beyond payment cards
Samsung support describes Wallet as a place for several kinds of digital items. Depending on location and device, these can include:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Payment, membership and gift cards
- Digital keys
- Health passes and boarding passes
- Digital assets
- Features associated with Samsung Pass
These are categories Samsung supports in some contexts, not a promise that every item type is available to every user. Availability can depend on the country or region, phone model, carrier, firmware, and the service or issuer behind the particular card, pass or key. A feature appearing in Samsung’s general Wallet description does not by itself confirm that it is available where you live.
Rank #3
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Compatibility: will Wallet work on your Galaxy phone?
Samsung’s US FAQ says Wallet is available on compatible Galaxy devices running Android 9 or above. Samsung lists the Galaxy S24 family as one compatible-device example, but the minimum Android version alone is not enough to establish that a particular phone supports Wallet or every Wallet feature. Samsung also says features and content may vary by country or region, device model, carrier and firmware.
Before relying on Wallet, check the compatibility guidance for your market and your exact phone configuration. Confirm the specific function you need as well: support for payment cards does not automatically confirm support for a transit card, ID, digital key or boarding pass.
Rank #4
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
- Check the market: Wallet and individual features can differ by country or region.
- Check the exact model and software: Samsung’s US guidance sets Android 9 or above as a baseline for compatible Galaxy devices, not a guarantee for every handset.
- Check carrier and firmware: Samsung identifies both as possible factors in feature and content availability.
- Check the item itself: Confirm support for the issuer, transit agency, pass or key you plan to use.
Transit cards are a local-support question
Transit availability depends on the local system; it should not be inferred from payment-card support or from another country’s list of supported agencies. As a US example, Samsung’s FAQ names Atlanta MARTA as a supported transit-card system.
Samsung says a configured transit card in this example can be tapped without unlocking the phone and does not need a network connection for use. An internet connection is needed to purchase a transit card. These details describe Samsung’s US FAQ example and should not be generalized to every transit system or region.

| Pass and other digital items | Samsung Pay is the payment-focused predecessor in the announced combination. | Wallet combines Samsung Pay with Samsung Pass features and supports additional digital-item categories, subject to local and device availability. |
| Compatibility | A universal Pay-era device-eligibility comparison is not stated. | Samsung’s US FAQ says compatible Galaxy devices running Android 9 or above; features and content vary by region, model, carrier and firmware. |
| Transit | A universal Pay-era transit-support comparison is not stated. | Local-system support applies. Samsung’s US FAQ names Atlanta MARTA and gives specific use conditions for configured cards. |
What to do if you still have Samsung Pay
Samsung’s June 2022 announcement said eligible users in the initial launch markets could migrate through the existing Pay or Pass apps. That is launch-era migration guidance, not a current step-by-step process for every user or market.
If you still see Samsung Pay on your phone, use Samsung’s local support information for your market and device to determine whether Wallet is available and what migration or app-update route applies. Do not assume that an old Pay installation proves Wallet is unsupported, or that a migration path announced in 2022 remains the exact procedure for your phone today.
How to decide whether the change affects you
If your main concern is paying with a card, the key point is continuity: Wallet retains Samsung Pay’s payment-card role, and Samsung says applicable card rewards and benefits continue in the US. If your reason to switch is a Pass feature or another digital item, verify that the specific function and item are supported in your location and on your phone.
