For the specific flagship policies documented here, Samsung offers the longer stated software-support runway. Samsung says the Galaxy S26 series will receive seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from its global launch. OnePlus’s UK policy sets a minimum of three years of security updates for phones and tablets, while its UK declaration for the OnePlus 13 gives that model a defined support period through 7 January 2031. Those figures describe different things, so compare the exact model, market and update type before deciding which phone offers better value.
Samsung and OnePlus support commitments at a glance
| Phone or policy | OS upgrades | Security support | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy S26 series | Seven generations, according to Samsung’s US launch announcement. | Seven years from global launch, according to the same announcement. | Specific to the S26 series. Samsung says general availability began March 11, 2026. |
| OnePlus UK policy | Not stated in the cited policy page. | Minimum three years following launch for smartphones and tablets, according to OnePlus UK’s Product Security Update Period page. | UK policy; it is a security-update minimum, not a model-wide OS-upgrade count. |
| OnePlus 13, UK model CPH2653 | Not stated in the cited declaration. | Defined support period of six years, until 7 January 2031, according to OnePlus’s UK declaration. | Specific to the model and declaration; the six-year period is not an Android OS-upgrade promise. |
| Samsung’s older select-device policy | Up to four generations of One UI/Android OS upgrades. | Up to five years. | Samsung’s 2022 announcement said eligibility and timing could vary by device model. |
The table is not a like-for-like ranking of every phone sold by either brand. Samsung’s seven-generation and seven-year promise is for the Galaxy S26 series, while the OnePlus figures above are a UK-wide minimum and a separate OnePlus 13 security-support declaration. Do not apply a flagship commitment to a different model without checking that model’s own terms.

What “years of support” actually means
OS upgrades change the Android version
An OS-upgrade commitment is usually expressed as generations or major version upgrades. Samsung’s S26 announcement specifies seven generations, but that wording is not the same as seven years: the number describes upgrade generations, while the separate seven-year figure describes security updates.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSecurity updates address a different commitment
Security support concerns patches, and its term may be stated as a minimum after launch or as a defined period ending on a particular date. OnePlus UK’s minimum-three-year policy and the OnePlus 13 declaration’s end date are security-support statements. Neither cited OnePlus source establishes how many Android OS upgrades every OnePlus model will receive.

Duration and end date answer different questions
A duration measured from launch tells you how long a stated commitment runs relative to that device’s launch. An absolute end date tells you when the listed period ends for that model. For a phone you are considering, compare the support end date with today and with your likely replacement date—not just the headline number of years.
Which brand gives you more years for your money?
If you are comparing the Galaxy S26 series with the OnePlus 13 using only these published commitments, Samsung has the clearer and longer stated runway for both OS upgrades and security updates: seven generations and seven years from global launch. The OnePlus 13 has a six-year defined security-support period in its UK declaration, but that does not establish a corresponding six-year OS-upgrade promise. The broader OnePlus UK minimum is three years of security updates after launch.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

That is a comparison of stated policies, not proof that one phone will remain useful or secure for every owner throughout its support period. Nor do the cited policies establish a savings amount or which device is better value. The answer depends on the exact regional model and its price, and on how long you intend to keep it.

How to compare the phones you can actually buy
- Confirm the exact model and regional version. A promise for one series or regional declaration does not automatically cover another handset or market.
- Find the model-specific OS-upgrade commitment. Count major OS generations separately from security-update years. If an official source does not state an OS-upgrade count, treat it as not established rather than inferring one from the security term.
- Check the security term and its starting point. Note whether it is a minimum after launch or a fixed end date, then compare that date with your planned ownership period.
- Look for rollout details where they matter. A stated commitment tells you the promised scope, not when every region or model variant receives an update. Samsung has said availability and timing may vary by device model in its earlier policy announcement.
- Compare current local prices and your ownership plan. A longer support promise may matter more if you keep a phone for years; it does not by itself show that a more expensive phone is the better buy.
How the policies have changed over time
Samsung’s current S26-series announcement is more generous than the company’s 2022 statement for select Galaxy devices, which offered up to four generations of OS upgrades and up to five years of security updates. “Up to” and “select devices” matter: the older policy was not a uniform promise for every Galaxy phone, and eligibility and timing varied by model. For an older Samsung purchase, check the exact model’s support terms rather than assuming it has the S26 commitment.

OnePlus’s cited UK materials establish a minimum security-update period for phones and tablets and a defined end date for the OnePlus 13. They do not provide a universal OS-upgrade count for current OnePlus models. A fair model-to-model comparison therefore needs the specific OnePlus model’s own OS-update terms, if published.
