To reset a Samsung VRT washing machine, unplug it or switch off its circuit breaker, wait 1–5 minutes, then restore power. This power cycle can clear a minor glitch, but it is not a factory reset and will not fix the cause of a recurring error. Samsung says there is no general reset function for its washers.
How to power-cycle a Samsung VRT washer
- Note any error code first. If the washer is mid-cycle or showing a code, record it and check the code-specific instructions. Clearing an error can erase stored error history that may help diagnose the problem.
- Disconnect power. Unplug the washer if the plug is safely accessible. Otherwise, switch off the circuit breaker that supplies the washer. Do not move the appliance or reach behind it if doing so would be unsafe.
- Wait before restoring power. Samsung US recommends leaving the washer without power for 1–5 minutes. Samsung Canada describes waiting about one minute, so follow your model’s regional guidance if it differs.
- Restore power and turn on the washer. This is a reboot, not a guaranteed repair. It may clear a temporary glitch; it does not address a failed component, water-supply issue, or other underlying fault.
Samsung’s US guidance puts it plainly: “There really isn’t a way to reset the washing machine.” Its regular reset procedure is a power cycle, not a universal reset button or button combination. See Samsung’s guide to resetting a washing machine.

What to do if the error or problem returns
Do not keep repeating the power cycle. If the same code or symptom comes back, troubleshoot that specific issue; a reset may remove the code from view without correcting its cause. For example, Samsung identifies 4C/4E as a water-fill problem. Check the code’s instructions and the washer’s water-supply and installation requirements; seek service if the problem persists.

For a code or symptom that is not resolved, use Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance or request service through Samsung support. Record the code and when it appears before clearing it again.

If the washer’s buttons do not work
Before assuming the control panel has failed, check whether Child Lock is on, whether the panel is wet, or whether the selected cycle makes that setting unavailable. If the controls remain unresponsive after those checks, Samsung suggests unplugging the washer for 60 seconds. Wi-Fi network reset is different
A network reset erases saved Wi-Fi information; it is not the ordinary power cycle and applies only to supported Wi-Fi models. Samsung describes this sequence for applicable washers: hold Smart Control until “AP” appears (about 3 seconds), hold Temp until “OK” appears (about 7 seconds), wait for the display to return to “AP,” then turn the washer off. Do not assume these buttons or timings apply to every model. Confirm Wi-Fi capability and the procedure in the model’s manual before proceeding.

Check the exact model before using model-specific instructions
VRT and VRT Plus are feature designations, not one unique washer model. Samsung support, for example, lists WF20T6000AW/AP and WF45T6000AV/A5 as VRT Plus models, each with its own support information. Locate your washer’s model code and use its official support page or manual for model-dependent controls and procedures.
