Samsung UA43CU8000WXXY Review: A Basic 4K TV With Important Limits

The Australian Samsung UA43CU8000WXXY is a basic 43-inch 4K smart TV with ALLM and useful connectivity, but its 50 Hz specification and series-level brightness, viewing-angle and motion concerns limit its appeal.

The Samsung UA43CU8000WXXY is the Australian 43-inch version of Samsung’s CU8000 Crystal UHD 4K TV. Samsung lists a 50 Hz native refresh rate, three HDMI ports and basic gaming features such as Auto Game Mode, but independent testing of US CU8000 variants points to weak brightness, limited viewing angles and motion blur. That makes it a better fit for straightforward TV viewing from a central seat than for bright rooms, wide seating or fast-paced gaming. Samsung Australia’s product page currently labels this model “Not for sale,” so check local availability rather than assuming it can be bought new.

What is the Samsung UA43CU8000WXXY?

It is Samsung’s Australian 43-inch CU8000 Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV. Samsung Australia lists its resolution as 3,840 × 2,160 pixels and its native refresh rate as 50 Hz. The TV runs Tizen Smart TV and supports HDR10+, HLG and Filmmaker Mode. Its regional model identity matters: the independent CU8000 review discussed below tests US FXZA variants, not this Australian WXXY SKU.

Samsung Australia’s product page currently marks the model “Not for sale.” That status does not establish whether remaining stock is available through retailers, and no current Australian price is established here. Check the exact SKU and seller before purchase.

How does the CU8000 perform for everyday viewing?

RTINGS describes the CU8000 as a basic, entry-level 4K TV. Its review reports good upscaling of lower-resolution content, which can help older broadcasts and lower-resolution video look more usable on a 4K screen. The same review finds low brightness, poor reflection handling and narrow viewing angles. In practice, those limitations make it less suitable for a sunny room or a setup where several people watch from seats spread across the room.

RTINGS also reports motion blur and says the set is less suited to fast action. Its findings are useful as CU8000-series context, not as measurements of the Australian UA43CU8000WXXY: the tested models are US FXZA variants. Samsung Australia separately publishes a 50 Hz native refresh specification for this SKU. RTINGS also notes that some results use its older TV test methodology, so they may not compare directly with newer tests.

Is the Samsung CU8000 good for gaming?

Samsung lists Auto Game Mode (ALLM), HGiG and Gaming Hub. ALLM can automatically switch a compatible console and TV into a lower-latency game setting. RTINGS reports low input lag in Game Mode for its US CU8000 test sample, a useful series-level indication for responsive casual play. It does not establish the input lag of the Australian WXXY unit.

There are meaningful limits for players who prioritize smooth motion or advanced gaming features. RTINGS reports a 60 Hz limit and no variable refresh rate (VRR) on its tested US variant, along with motion blur. Samsung Australia’s listed native refresh for the WXXY is 50 Hz; do not treat the US test result as a measurement of this Australian model. If you mainly play fast competitive games, verify the exact regional model’s supported input modes and consider a TV with a higher refresh rate and VRR.

How good is HDR, and is it bright enough for a bright room?

Although Samsung lists HDR10+ and HLG support, format compatibility alone does not guarantee bright, high-impact HDR. RTINGS reports low brightness and no local dimming for the US CU8000 test sample, which limits its ability to make small highlights stand out against darker areas. The review also finds poor reflection handling, so glare can further undermine the picture in a bright room.

For a room with strong daylight or a lot of direct light, the independent series-level findings are a caution rather than proof of the Australian unit’s measured performance. For HDR-focused viewing, compare brightness and local-dimming performance—not just the list of supported formats—on the exact model you are considering.

Ports, wireless connections and sound

Samsung Australia lists three HDMI ports, two USB ports, Ethernet, optical digital audio, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2. HDMI eARC/ARC is available for sending TV audio to a compatible soundbar or receiver. Built-in audio is listed as 20 W RMS through two channels; that specification describes the system, not a listening test. A compatible external audio system is an optional way to expand sound, not a requirement established by these specifications.

The tuner is listed as DVB-T (T2 ready), so confirm broadcast compatibility for your location and intended services rather than assuming specifications from another country’s CU8000 apply.

Can you wall-mount the Samsung UA43CU8000WXXY?

Yes. Samsung lists a VESA mounting pattern of 200 × 200 mm. The TV measures 965.5 × 559.8 × 25.7 mm without its stand and weighs 8.4 kg without the stand. With the stand, Samsung lists dimensions of 965.5 × 600.1 × 195.1 mm and a weight of 8.70 kg. The stand footprint is 681.9 × 195.1 mm.

Software updates and support

Samsung Australia’s UA43CU8000WXXY support page hosts model-specific manuals and software downloads. Its listing includes dated update files, including entries from 2026, but a download listing does not identify the firmware installed on an individual TV or say which features a particular update changes. Check the support page and Samsung’s update instructions for current details before installing software.

Who should consider this TV?

  • Potentially suitable: Someone looking for a straightforward 43-inch 4K smart TV, who watches mainly from a central seat and does not need high-brightness HDR or advanced gaming features. The reported upscaling performance may also help with lower-resolution content.
  • Look elsewhere if: Your room is bright, viewers sit at wide angles, you watch a lot of fast action, or you want VRR and a high-refresh gaming experience. The independent findings are for US variants, so confirm any alternative against its exact regional specification and testing.

Before comparing it with another TV, weigh refresh and motion handling, brightness and reflection management, viewing angle, local dimming and HDR capability, gaming features such as VRR, and the exact local price and availability. Also compare regional tuner and connectivity specifications rather than relying on a model name shared across markets. RTINGS discusses CU8000 comparisons with the Samsung CU7000 and DU8000, but Australian pricing and stock for alternatives should be checked independently.
