What is the Samsung TV PIN?
The TV PIN is a numeric security code used to access protected functions. Samsung’s UK guidance lists installing and using apps as examples. The commonly cited default is 0000, but an owner may have changed it; Samsung’s instructions for covered 2025 U.S. TVs, projectors, and smart monitors say a PIN must be created during initial setup. Menu paths depend on the product year and market. For the 2025 U.S. products covered by Samsung’s guide, the PIN can be changed at Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Change PIN. Older Samsung India guidance describes paths through System Manager or System, depending on the year. Use the manual or support page for your exact model rather than assuming one menu path applies to every TV: Samsung India PIN instructions.
What is a remote pairing code?
“Remote pairing code” can sound like a number you type into the TV, but Samsung’s cited Smart Remote instructions describe a connection process, not PIN entry. The remote usually connects automatically. If it does not, the steps depend on the remote and TV model; the supported Smart Remote procedure below uses buttons and an on-screen confirmation, not a typed code. Samsung’s Smart Remote pairing guide says the remote is designed to connect automatically.

Do I need a code to pair my Samsung remote?
No PIN is requested in the cited Samsung Smart Remote pairing instructions. For the Smart Remote covered by Samsung Canada’s guide, try automatic pairing first. If it does not connect:
- Point the remote toward the TV.
- Press and hold Return and Play/Pause together for at least three seconds.
- Watch the TV for an on-screen message confirming the connection.
Samsung says some standard remotes with separate Play and Pause buttons pair automatically. The 2018 Q9FN manual also describes automatic pairing and a similar button combination for that series; it is not a universal instruction for all remotes. Consult the 2018 Q9FN manual or the guide for your own model if the button names or behavior differ.

Why is my Samsung TV asking for a PIN?
The prompt’s timing and wording help identify what it is for. A PIN prompt while opening a protected TV function is separate from remote pairing. A PIN displayed during first-time Samsung account setup is also a separate workflow: Samsung Canada’s TV setup guide describes entering the PIN shown on the TV when adding a Samsung account. That does not mean the Smart Remote requires a pairing code.
If the screen is unclear, note its exact wording and what you were doing when it appeared. A prompt from an external device or app may not be asking for the TV’s PIN.

How do I reset a forgotten Samsung TV PIN?
Samsung publishes reset instructions that vary by model, year, market, and remote type. Do not combine button sequences from different guides. Samsung UK describes different procedures for Smart and standard remotes; Samsung’s U.S. instructions for 2025 TVs, projectors, and smart monitors give this sequence:
- Press Volume.
- Press Volume Up.
- Press Return.
- Press Volume Down.
- Press Return.
- Press Volume Up.
- Press Return.
That sequence is specific to the products covered by the 2025 U.S. guide; it should not be treated as a universal reset. For other products, follow the applicable Samsung UK reset instructions or your model’s manual. If a documented procedure fails, verify the TV model, software, region, remote type, and whether the prompt comes from the TV itself.

What to check if pairing still fails
- Confirm the TV and remote models so you can follow the correct procedure.
- Check that the remote has working batteries and is aimed at the TV; battery type and details can differ by remote.
- Use the model-specific pairing instructions and look for the TV’s connection message.
- If the original remote still appears faulty after these checks, verify compatibility before considering a Samsung Smart TV replacement remote. A purchase is not required just to enter a pairing code.
