If your Samsung tablet has gone quiet, first play a video and check the Media slider under Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume. If every kind of sound is missing, check Mute all sounds next; if only calls or alerts are silent, check Do not disturb and the relevant volume category. Menu names and locations can vary by model and software version.
Start with the sound that is missing
Test a familiar video or other media, then press a volume key while it plays. Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume and make sure Media is turned up. Samsung tablets have separate volume categories: notification volume controls alerts, while system volume covers sounds such as button and touch feedback. Raise the category that matches the symptom rather than assuming one slider controls everything. Samsung’s sound settings guide explains these separate controls.

- Videos, music, and games are silent: check Media volume.
- Only alerts are silent: check Notification volume.
- Only button or touch feedback is missing: check System volume.
If all audio is missing, turn off Mute all sounds
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements and turn off Mute all sounds, if that option appears on your tablet. Samsung says this setting mutes media, notifications, system sounds, and the other person’s voice during calls. Volume cannot be adjusted while it is enabled, so an accessibility message when you press a volume key makes this setting especially worth checking. Samsung’s no-sound troubleshooting instructions include this check.
If calls or notifications are silent, check Do not disturb
Open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb and switch it off temporarily to test. Do not disturb affects calls and notifications, except for any exceptions you have allowed. It may explain missed ringing or alerts, but it is not the first explanation to investigate when videos and other media are silent. Samsung’s guidance on sound settings covers this distinction.

Check whether sound is going somewhere else
Temporarily turn off Bluetooth and unplug any headphones or other wired audio accessory, then play the test video again. Sound may be routed to a connected device rather than the tablet’s built-in speakers. If the problem affects only one app, look for Separate app sound under Settings > Sounds and vibration; it can send an app’s audio to a different output. Samsung’s support guidance also recommends checking connected devices and app-specific audio routing. Samsung Saudi Arabia’s speaker troubleshooting page describes these checks.
For one-sided or muffled audio, check balance and obstructions
If sound comes from only one side, inspect Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements > Left/right sound balance and move the control toward the center. Exact labels and paths may differ. If audio is faint or muffled, remove the case or accessory temporarily and make sure nothing is covering the speaker openings. Restart after checking settings and connections
If the tablet is still silent, restart it from the on-screen power menu when available, then test the same sound again. Samsung notes that “A temporary system error may affect sound output.” Its general Galaxy guidance also documents a button-based restart, but button combinations can vary by model; use the instructions for your exact tablet rather than assuming a combination is universal. Samsung’s no-sound guide provides its restart advice.

Samsung’s Media volume limit setting applies when headphones or Bluetooth speakers are in use. On supported software, check Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume > More options > Media volume limit if you see a volume-limit warning or external-device volume stops increasing unexpectedly. This is not the first check for silent built-in tablet speakers. The setting’s availability and menu path may vary. Samsung’s volume-limit instructions describe the feature.

When the checks do not restore sound
Menu names, settings, and screen layouts may differ by model and software version; availability can also vary by region or carrier. Samsung states that its instructions may not match every device. If the tablet remains silent after testing the correct volume category, disabling Mute all sounds, checking Do not disturb where relevant, disconnecting other audio outputs, inspecting the speaker openings, and restarting, consult support for your exact Galaxy Tab model.
