Add an app shortcut to the Home screen
- From the Home screen, swipe up to open the Apps screen.
- Touch and hold the app you want to add.
- Tap Add to Home, or keep holding the icon and drag it to the preferred Home screen page and position.
If the page has no room, move an existing item or create another Home screen page. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen to enter edit mode, swipe through the pages, and tap the plus icon to add a page. Samsung notes that available screens and settings can vary by provider, software version, and device model; see its Galaxy phone and tablet shortcut instructions.

Remove a shortcut without uninstalling the app
Touch and hold the Home screen app icon and choose Remove from Home. The wording can vary. This removes only the shortcut: the app remains installed and available from the Apps screen. Samsung’s shortcut guidance distinguishes removing a Home screen icon from deleting an app.

Organize apps and add quick information
Group apps in a folder
Drag one app shortcut onto another to create a folder. Name the folder, then drag additional shortcuts into it. Folders keep related apps together, though opening an app in one takes an extra tap.

Add a widget
Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen, choose Widgets, and drag a widget into place. Widgets can show information or provide quick access to an app’s features. Available widgets and options such as resizing depend on the app and device.
Choose the right quick-access location

Use the Taskbar for apps you need while working
Samsung’s support page lists four app slots on Galaxy tablets. Apps in Favorites appear on the Taskbar, giving you access while using other apps. Samsung also describes saving an app pair after placing two apps in Multi window. The available controls may differ by software version; consult Samsung’s Taskbar instructions for your device.

Set up Edge panels for side-swipe access
If your tablet supports Edge panels, open the Edge panel handle and tap its settings gear to choose panels. To add app shortcuts, edit the Apps Edge panel. Samsung says you can select up to ten panels, but availability varies by model and software version, and some downloadable panels may require purchase. See Samsung’s Edge panel instructions.
Add shortcuts to the Lock screen
Samsung’s shortcut guide says devices running One UI 6 can customize the left and right Lock screen shortcuts when a Lock screen is configured. An app that requires authentication still needs to be unlocked before it opens. This option may vary by device and software version; check the Samsung shortcut guide for the relevant steps.

If an option is missing
- Confirm that you are on the Apps screen before looking for Add to Home.
- If there is no room on a Home screen page, move an item or add a page in Home screen edit mode.
- If you cannot find Taskbar, Edge panel, or Lock screen controls, your tablet’s model or software version may not support that feature, or the menu may be named differently.
- Check Samsung’s support instructions for your device. Samsung cautions that screens and settings can vary by model, software version, and carrier.
