After the reset, setup may require the Google account previously linked to the tablet—and, on some devices, its former screen lock. If you cannot complete verification, use official account recovery or contact a Samsung service center.
Before resetting: understand the data loss and account check
A factory reset deletes personal data stored on the tablet. Back up photos, videos, documents, and other files you need before proceeding; do not reset if important local data is not backed up. Samsung does not promise that data erased by a reset can be recovered. See Samsung’s factory-reset guidance.

Google Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is an anti-theft safeguard. A Recovery-menu reset does not bypass it: setup may require the Google account previously registered on the tablet. Samsung says FRP is included on Android devices running Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and later. Depending on the device and Android version, the previously configured screen lock may also be accepted for ownership verification. Samsung explains Google device protection; Samsung Canada states that Recovery-menu resets require sign-in with the previously linked Google account in its device-protection guidance.

Choose the reset route that fits your situation

Reset from Settings if you can unlock the tablet
- Open Settings → General management → Reset → Factory data reset.
- Review the data that will be erased and confirm the reset.
- Enter the screen lock or Samsung account password if prompted, then follow the on-screen confirmation.
Samsung notes that menu names and layouts can differ by model and software version. If your tablet uses different labels, check its model-specific Samsung support instructions. See Samsung’s reset steps and its factory-reset information.

Use Recovery when the screen password is forgotten
The Recovery menu can reset a locked tablet without entering its screen password, but the required button combination varies among Galaxy Tab models. Do not rely on a generic key sequence: identify your exact model number and consult its Samsung manual or support page for the correct instructions. The official guidance cited here does not establish a single sequence for every tablet.
After the reset and restart, follow setup and provide the Google account previously linked to the device if requested. Depending on Android version and device configuration, Google may also accept the prior screen-lock PIN, pattern, or password as verification. If you do not know the linked account or cannot verify ownership, Samsung advises visiting an authorized service center; its guidance is in Samsung’s Google device-protection article.

Erase remotely with Samsung Find or SmartThings Find
Remote erasure is an option only when the tablet is associated with your Samsung account, remote controls or finding features were enabled beforehand, and the device is powered on and connected to a stable network. Samsung’s remote-erasure instructions describe signing in to Samsung Find or SmartThings Find with the same Samsung account, selecting the tablet, and choosing Erase data. Samsung may ask you to verify the account.

If Google verification blocks setup
- You own the tablet but forgot the Google credentials: use Google’s official account-recovery process, then try setup again.
- You bought the tablet second-hand: ask the previous owner to complete the official account-removal or handoff process. A reset alone does not clear the prior owner’s protection.
- You still cannot verify ownership: contact a Samsung authorized service center and be prepared to establish ownership. Do not use third-party bypass services or unlock utilities.
