To add a song to Samsung Sound Picker, open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Ringtone, tap Add (+), select an audio file saved on your phone, then tap Done. The picker selects local files; it does not import songs directly from Spotify or other streaming services.
How to add a song in Samsung Sound Picker
- Open Settings and tap Sounds and vibration.
- Tap Ringtone.
- Tap Add (+). If the phone asks for permission to access audio files, allow it so you can choose a song.
- Select the song file stored on your phone.
- Choose whether to enable Play selected highlights only. With this option off, the song plays from the beginning; with it on, the phone plays selected parts of the song.
- Tap Done to set the ringtone.
These steps follow Samsung’s US support instructions. Menu labels and screens can differ by Galaxy model, carrier, software version, and region; Samsung UK describes the same basic Add-and-select process. What songs Sound Picker can use
The song must be an audio file downloaded and stored on the phone. Samsung says streaming-service songs, including Spotify tracks, cannot be set as ringtones through this workflow. If you have a track in a streaming app, you will need a compatible local audio file instead; the picker does not convert streaming playback into a ringtone. Samsung US support.
Samsung UK lists MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC as supported sound formats in its guidance and says M4A files need to be converted to one of those formats. This is Samsung UK’s regional guidance, not a universal guarantee for every Galaxy model or region. Samsung UK support.

If the song does not appear in the picker
- Check that it is stored on the phone. A streaming track that is not available as a local file will not appear as a selectable song.
- Switch from Tracks to Folders. Samsung UK recommends checking the folder view if a file is not visible in the Tracks list; navigate to the folder where the audio file is saved.
- Check the file format. For Samsung UK’s stated supported formats, use MP3, WMA, AAC, or FLAC; its guidance says M4A must be converted.
- Check for copy protection. Samsung notes that DRM-protected purchased music may not be compatible with transfer or playback on the phone.
Transfer a song from a computer if needed
A computer transfer is optional: if the audio file is already on your phone, you can go straight to Ringtone and add it. Samsung documents copying music files to a Galaxy phone over USB. The copied file must still be available on the phone and compatible with the ringtone picker; DRM-protected purchased music may not work. If the ringtone is set but silent
First check that the phone can play a ringtone at all: raise ringtone volume, confirm it is not muted, and check whether Do not Disturb, Airplane mode, Mute all sounds, or a Mode or Routine is affecting sound. If the custom sound is for calls in another calling app, that app may have its own sound settings. Samsung lists these as relevant troubleshooting checks. Samsung US support.

Set a different ringtone for one contact
If you want the song to identify calls from a particular person rather than become the general ringtone, Samsung also provides a contact-specific ringtone option. SIM-only contacts may not support a custom contact ringtone; save the contact to the phone or an account if the option is unavailable. Samsung US support.
