Samsung advises owners to check exact-model compatibility, and both manufacturers note that services can vary by product and region. Check the product’s support page for your country before relying on remote start or a particular cycle feature.

What you need to connect a Samsung washer to SmartThings
Samsung’s Gulf support guide, updated July 1, 2026, says setup requires a compatible model, Samsung account and network connection. Its connection flow uses the SmartThings app and the washer’s Smart Control setup; the guide instructs users to add a Washer and wait for “AP” to appear on the appliance. Samsung Australia also lists a compatible washer, the app, a wireless network and Samsung account as requirements. Available functions can vary with country, network, software and product.

- Confirm that your exact washer model supports SmartThings in your country using Samsung’s Gulf setup guide or your local Samsung support page.
- Install SmartThings and sign in to a Samsung account; connect your phone and washer to the required wireless network.
- In the app, choose the option to add a device and select Washer, then follow the on-screen prompts.
- When prompted, use the washer’s Smart Control setup until its display shows “AP,” then finish pairing in the app.
Menu wording and the appliance-side steps can differ across models and regions. Do not treat requirements listed in an older regional guide, such as a phone operating-system version, as a universal current requirement.
How LG ThinQ remote start works on the cited top-load washer
The LG USA top-load guide is dated December 12, 2021, so check your own washer’s current manual for its exact controls. On the model covered by that guide, remote start must first be enabled at the appliance:

If the door is opened, remote start cannot proceed. The guide says holding the button for three seconds disables Remote Start. These are model-specific steps, not a promise that every ThinQ washer uses the same sequence.

Can LG ThinQ control a Samsung washer?
Only in a limited, regional case established by LG Korea. Its May 29, 2026 support instructions describe an HCA-based integration in South Korea: register the Samsung appliance in SmartThings, then add the Samsung product in ThinQ and sign in with SmartThings credentials. LG lists Wi-Fi Samsung washers and dryers first released from 2021 onward in the supported laundry category, alongside product-line restrictions. Availability can also depend on the model and app or product version.

For a Samsung washer surfaced in ThinQ through this route, LG lists status display and start/cancel controls; pause is not supported. This does not establish universal compatibility between the apps, nor does it establish SmartThings control of LG washers. Outside the documented South Korean setup, use the washer maker’s native app unless the exact model’s local support documentation says otherwise.
