On most Samsung Galaxy phones, press the Side or Power button and Volume Down together, then release after a brief moment. To capture a long page, tap Scroll capture on the toolbar that appears. Screenshots are saved in Gallery, in the Screenshots album.
How to take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side or Power button and Volume Down at the same time.
- Release both buttons after a brief moment. A screen flash indicates the capture.
- Open Gallery to view the screenshot.
Button placement varies by Galaxy model. If the keys are in an unexpected location or the shortcut behaves differently, check the manual for your exact device. Samsung’s screenshot instructions and the Galaxy Z Flip6 manual describe the button method.

Which screenshot method should you use?

How to capture a long screenshot
- Open the scrollable webpage, document, or other content.
- Take a regular screenshot with the buttons.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture, usually shown as a down arrow, to add more of the page.
- Continue using the option as needed, then open Gallery to view the result.
Scroll capture is intended for content that extends beyond the screen. The option may not appear when the content fits on one screen or the app does not support capture. Samsung describes the feature in its screenshot guide and Z Flip6 manual.

How to enable palm swipe
- Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures.
- Turn on Palm swipe to capture, if the option is available on your phone.
- Swipe the edge of your hand across the display to capture the screen.
Samsung notes that gesture availability varies by model and software version. Palm swipe also does not work while the keyboard is displayed. See Samsung’s screenshot guidance and motions and gestures guidance.

Other ways to capture or annotate
Use a voice assistant
Samsung lists Bixby Voice and Google Assistant as hands-free screenshot options. The relevant assistant must be available and enabled on your device; voice capture is not a universal button-free shortcut.
Use Screen write with an S Pen
On a Galaxy device that supports an S Pen, open Air command and choose Screen write. It captures the screen and lets you write or draw before saving the result to Gallery. Both device and pen compatibility matter; this is an optional method, not a requirement for taking screenshots.

Use the Tasks Edge panel
Samsung also documents a Take screenshot shortcut in the Tasks Edge panel. Availability and setup vary, so use the button method if the panel or task is not present.

Where to find, edit, and share screenshots
- Open Gallery.
- Choose Albums, then open Screenshots.
- Open a screenshot to view it. Depending on the model, software, and settings, the capture toolbar may offer cropping, drawing, sharing, or tags.

What to check when screenshots do not work
- The buttons do not capture: Press Side/Power and Volume Down together, then release after a brief moment. Check your model’s manual for key placement and device-specific behavior.
- Palm swipe is missing: Look under Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures. The feature is model- and software-dependent; it also cannot be used while the keyboard is showing.
- Scroll capture is missing: Confirm the page extends beyond the screen and that the app supports capture. The toolbar option is not available for every screen.
- A particular app blocks capture: Some apps or screens block screenshots for privacy or security reasons. Samsung does not describe a universal workaround; try capturing content only where the app permits it.
Screenshot options and behavior can differ by model, software version, and carrier. Samsung’s gesture guidance specifically notes that available motions and gestures may vary.
