On a Galaxy S22 Ultra, open Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers to block a specific caller, turn on Block calls from unknown numbers if available, or remove a number from the blocked list to unblock it. Spam and scam filtering is a separate setting, and its availability and labels can vary by carrier and software version.
Choose the right call-blocking control
Samsung’s built-in Phone settings offer three distinct approaches. A manual block targets a number you specify; unknown-caller blocking targets unknown or unspecified callers; spam protection identifies suspected spam and scam calls and offers filtering choices. These controls are not interchangeable.

Block one specific number
Add a number in Phone settings
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap More options (the three vertical dots), then Settings.
- Tap Block numbers.
- Enter the number and tap Add. If the screen offers selectors, you can instead choose a number from Recents, Messages, or Contacts.

Block a caller from Recents
- In Phone, open Recents.
- Select the unwanted number and open its information or details view.
- Choose Block.

Block unknown callers or filter suspected spam
Turn on unknown-caller blocking
Go to Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers and switch on Block calls from unknown numbers, if that control appears. Samsung describes this setting as blocking unknown or unspecified callers. Its label does not establish that every number absent from your Contacts will be blocked, so do not treat it as a blanket contacts-only setting. Samsung US
Choose a spam-filtering level
- Open Phone, tap More options, then Settings.
- Tap Caller ID and spam protection, if available, and follow the prompts to review and accept the terms.
- Open the feature’s options and choose Block all spam and scam calls or Only block high-risk scam calls.
The broader choice blocks calls identified as spam and scams; the high-risk choice is narrower and can let less severe spam through. Samsung notes that available options can vary by carrier and software version. Samsung Canada

- Find the number you want to allow again.
- Tap the minus control beside that entry to remove it from the block list.

What call blocking does not necessarily cover
- Voicemail: Blocking calls on the phone does not guarantee that a blocked caller cannot leave voicemail. Samsung advises contacting your carrier about blocking voicemails from specific callers. Samsung US
- Every spam call: Spam filtering depends on caller identification and provider or software availability; it is not a promise that every unwanted call will be identified or stopped. Smart Call may not be offered on some carriers or models. Samsung US
- Identical menus on every S22 Ultra: Samsung says, “The screens and settings on your device may vary depending on your wireless provider and software version.” This caveat appears on its Canada support page, updated Aug. 29, 2026. Samsung Canada
