Samsung is reportedly seeking a mid-to-high $4 per gigabit price for HBM4 supplied next year, compared with about $1.50 per gigabit for HBM3E, according to Maeil Business as relayed by Newsquawk on October 2, 2026. That is a proposed negotiation price—not a publicly confirmed contract, customer-accepted rate or realized average selling price.
What the reported price comparison means
The headline comparison is on a per-gigabit basis: Samsung is reportedly seeking more than three times the roughly $1.50/Gb HBM3E reference for its HBM4 supply next year. The report describes Samsung’s asking position in negotiations. It does not establish what customers will agree to pay, the terms of any eventual contracts or Samsung’s average realized price.

Sammy Fans’ October 2 summary also characterizes the figure as proposed, and notes that acceptance could depend on qualification results, available supply and competitor pricing. It is contextual reporting, not independent confirmation of contract terms.

Why HBM4 may command a premium
Samsung’s published HBM4 specifications show a substantial performance and capacity step that helps explain its positioning as a higher-value generation. They provide product context, but do not verify the reported price.
#1 Best Overall
- Speed: Samsung lists 11.7 Gbps consistent processing speed, with enhancement up to 13 Gbps.
- Bandwidth: Up to 3.3 terabytes per second per stack, which Samsung says is 2.7 times HBM3E.
- Capacity: 24–36 GB in 12-layer stacks. Samsung says future 16-layer products are planned for up to 48 GB.
- Power and thermal performance: Samsung reports 40% better power efficiency, 10% better thermal resistance and 30% greater heat dissipation versus HBM3E.
These are company-stated comparisons from Samsung’s February 12, 2026 HBM4 announcement. Actual value to a buyer also depends on qualification, system requirements and the supply available when components are needed.
Broader HBM pricing signals are forecasts, not confirmation
Other reports point to rising HBM prices across the market, but they do not establish that Samsung’s proposed HBM4 rate will be accepted. A Seoul Economic Daily report dated July 12, 2026, citing DigiTimes and industry sources, described a forecast of $4–$5/Gb or more for HBM4 in 2027, up from about $2/Gb in the second half of 2026; it put HBM3E at $1.50–$1.60/Gb. The English article notes that it was AI-translated.
Separately, TrendForce forecast a 121% increase in average HBM selling prices in 2027, according to Seoul Economic Daily on September 30, 2026. That is a market-wide forecast, not a Samsung-specific HBM4 quote.

What is known about Samsung’s HBM4 supply position
Samsung said in February 2026: “Samsung anticipates that its HBM sales will more than triple in 2026 compared to 2025, and is proactively expanding its HBM4 production capacity.” This is the company’s outlook, not a reported result.
Rank #2
A September 20 report by Seoul Economic Daily attributed an HBM4 yield of around 80% to industry sources, up from below 60% in early mass-production stages. The figure is not a company-verified yield disclosure. The same report said Samsung projected third-quarter HBM4 revenue to exceed three times the previous quarter; that, too, was a projection rather than a realized result. See the September 20 report.

A proposed per-gigabit rate is only one part of the commercial comparison. Customers must qualify memory for their systems, and the amount of supply available—as well as rival offers—can affect negotiation outcomes. Buyers comparing HBM generations should also account for stack capacity, speed, bandwidth and power and thermal characteristics, rather than comparing a per-gigabit figure directly with the price of a whole stack or accelerator.
For now, the defensible conclusion is limited: Samsung is reportedly asking for a mid-to-high $4/Gb for next year’s HBM4, while the available reporting does not show whether customers will accept that rate or what contracts will ultimately specify.
