First decide whether you only need to remove the ice bucket or cover for access, or whether you need to remove the ice-maker assembly itself. Those are different jobs; do not use one Samsung model’s removal sequence as instructions for another.
Do you need to remove the bucket or the ice-maker assembly?
Removing the ice bucket—or, on some designs, a cover—can provide access to the ice maker’s Test button. That is not the same as withdrawing the assembly from the refrigerator. If your goal is to reset or troubleshoot the maker, bucket access may be all you need. Samsung describes this access and testing for certain freezer-door configurations in its U.S. ice-maker reset instructions.

Full assembly removal involves model-specific retainers, connectors, and nearby components. Before proceeding, identify the complete refrigerator model number and find the matching documentation. Samsung’s RF25C5151SR/AA support page, for example, lists both a user manual and a repair guide; the right document depends on the task.
What to check before taking anything apart
- Find the full model code. Use the refrigerator’s model label, then locate that exact model on Samsung Support. Regional suffixes matter when selecting documentation.
- Clarify the goal. Bucket removal for access, a reset or test, cleaning, and assembly replacement are not interchangeable tasks.
- Open the model-specific instructions first. Confirm that they cover your exact configuration and the work you intend to do. If the release method or connections are unclear, stop and contact Samsung Support or a qualified service provider.
- Do not force stuck parts. A bucket, connector, or assembly that does not release as the matching instructions describe may be caught or retained differently.
Try the model-appropriate test before assembly removal
For the freezer-door configuration covered by Samsung’s U.S. support article, remove the ice bucket or the cover used on some older designs to reach the Test button. Samsung cautions: “Do not press Test repeatedly after the ice tray is filled with ice or water. The water may overflow or the ice may jam.” The article describes holding Test until a chime and suggests a two-minute power cycle if there is no chime and no movement. Button location and reset details vary by design, so verify that those instructions apply to your refrigerator before using them.

Samsung’s RF26J7500SR/AA support page also indexes troubleshooting guidance for getting an ice maker working again. If troubleshooting resolves the issue, there is no reason to remove the assembly just to access the bucket or test controls.
Why there is no universal Samsung removal sequence
Samsung refrigerators use different ice-maker configurations, and the correct release points and handling steps depend on the model. One service-manual copy for RF22K9381SG/AA and related models describes removing the bucket, taking off a wire-housing cover, disconnecting a housing connector, releasing a duct-tray screw and locking tab, and carefully withdrawing the maker. It warns about nearby grommets and a refrigerant tube. These details are specific to that model family, not a general procedure. The manual copy is hosted by a third party; verify your exact model and applicable Samsung service documentation before relying on it: RF22K9381SG/AA and related service-manual copy.

Do not infer from that example that every Samsung ice maker has the same connector, screw arrangement, duct, or user-disconnectable water line. Follow only the instructions for your complete model code. If they are unavailable or you cannot identify the specified parts confidently, use Samsung Support or a service provider instead of improvising.

Do not buy a replacement based on the Samsung name or appearance alone. Confirm both the part number and compatibility with your complete refrigerator model before ordering. For example, PartSelect lists assembly DA97-07603B for RF20HFENBBC and gives removal guidance for that specific listing. That does not establish fit or removal instructions for other Samsung refrigerators: DA97-07603B listing for RF20HFENBBC.

When to stop and get model-specific help
Pause the job if you cannot find instructions for the full model code, the parts do not release as described, or you are unsure which connector or retainer the manual identifies. Samsung’s model support pages provide manuals and repair-support routes; use the page for your refrigerator rather than applying a procedure from a different family.
